Should a lightweight crew go for 1:1 or 2:1 jib sheeting, I've no idea I'm only used to a Finn mainsheet? Thanks, Mike

1:1 with a ratchet. The loads are not high (but then I'm not small...)

As Peaky says Icon is default to 1:1 on jib-sheets but the Harken tracks carry a 40mm ratchet each side. The rules will allow you 2:1 if needed / wanted but we advise all to use the default set-up first.
On the mainsheet side - you can be either 2:1 (default) but also 1:1 if you prefer. The mainsheet system employed is 'free' under the rules - so you can go 'Rear sheet - off the boom' (Default), traditional centre-main or 'rear sheet - off floor' (bit like the laser set-up). Lastly if you cannot adapt from your very traditional rear-sheet (like old Ents) you can go that way as well. As ever we do encourage all to try the default set-up first ... it is optimal in our opinion. Mike L. Edited by blaze720 - 26 Jul 12 at 10:23am |

I will do as advised, I had already gone for the mainsheet off the boom, but just wanted to check the jib sheets as it is not my area of experience! Just 2 weeks to go?! Sorry not to reply earlier but was away on a business trip and couldn't pick up any communications. Thanks for the help, Mike

I have borrowed a prototype, new one arriving next month, many thanks Mike. We rigged her on Monday, but wet and big gusty wind so retired for bacon sandwiches. Saturday is the first outing, she looks terrific, I am sat behind my desk and I want to be out there instead, it's not good being a small boy disguised as a middle aged, 'responsible' bloke. Report to follow.
We have at least two demos booked already!

No problem Mike ... but we need '03' back for the Forumites meeting and ideally in advance for a bit of a practice again - the 'dancing farmer' will be getting restless to get back in her when the harvest is finished. If he does not get his fill of '03' again soon there is real danger he may take to 'beer and dancing' again ... those that already have seen what happens then will be shuddering at the mere suggestion .... as well they might. I'm sure Rodney will be speeding Icon '16' to you in a couple of weeks or so, we all hope so.
In the meantime we look forward to hearing what you make of Icon 03 ! Mike L. PS - it is a tad and a bit faster than a Finn ![]() |

Thanks, I very much hope GBR16 has been launch, tested, toasted (with brandy and babycham, drink of heros) and is match fit before the Forumites meet where she is due to meet her public, Hello will no doubt do a photo shoot. I will report on 03/16 on Monday, only one sleep before we sail her! The Finn is looking lonely and forlorn under my office as I write, may be she feels safe with the transfer window closing?

![]() Hi Ruscoe Sure something can be arranged ... but its looking as if there might be a bit of a list developing ! I'll see if we can get a 'spare' available as well ... Mike L. |

Well, had a run out in one of the prototype boats, hull number 3 yesterday, thanks to Mike W and Rodney.
It was a very patchy, shifty, gusty day so hard to judge overall performance; 1. Accelerates well 2. Lots of power 3. Responds well to helm .... But keep it flat! 4. Continuous kicker and Cunningham would be good 5. Think it will carry weight well, especially at sea with constant wind 6. Toe straps need sorting and ought to be adjustable. 7. Looks good 8. No doubt Rodney will keep us right on the differences between No.3 and the final production Devoti boats. Unfortunately because of the conditions I couldn't judge more than that ..... But definitely giving it serious thought. Who has any thoughts on maximum and average crew weights for best performance? Planning second test with crew along.
