Looking at the open meeting turnouts, I would say its the RS500 that needs a revamp.

5 boats at Arun!

That's with LDC offering free use of a boat to people wanting to try it. Maybe if they put this kind of promotion into the 400, they'd sell a few more?

When I was looking to buy one, there was no demo boat available.

Nevertheless a service that any CA should provide - I bet some already do.

When up and running we need a bit of a campaign to get people using it - there must be loads of RS sails in lofts (I can think of a few) that would make good (and class legal) racing sails at a fraction of new cost.

As soon as it becomes "the" place to buy and sell sails, it would be a whole lot easier than apolloduck or whatever.

Nick.

Actually Nick I was a bit surprised I would need to be an association member to place an ad. I was after placing a wanted ad (for sails actually) for a boat I don't yet own but have borrowed. Can't quite place why it annoyed me but it felt 'wrong' when I could put it on Y&Y for free.

So we have people complaining that there is no incentive for people to join a class association, and people complaining if class association mebers have benefits non-members don't have... Hmm.

I don't think placing 'wanted' ads should be discouraged for non-

that they owe 'something back' once they do get what they 'wanted',
especially if they found their new boat that way. of course some smart
cookie will probably think it's perfectly fair to advertise- 'wanted-
someone to buy my non-class legal, crappy second hand rooster sails'
and then no doubt grumble when they get told every so politely to 'get
knotted'.

Although this is really a class issue than the commercial team at RS...
perhaps PV could pick up this with Chunks?

IIRC I put a 'boat wanted' ad on the website before I joined (some years ago), then joined when I'd bought one. I didn't pay for the ad. The ads are moderated so do need some effort from (paid) staff, so passing on a nominal cost might be fair, but that is probably secondary to having the CA website as no1 place for adverts not ApolloDuck, Boats and Outboards Y&Y etc etc.

I heard they were going to reduce costs by using the 100 kite, 800 mainsail and Vision centreboard.
