Rick, you can have carbon spars if you wish - most of the Aussie boats have a composite tip above the hounds and ali below, because all carbon spars were only allowed this year (to keep costs down, carbon hulls are still banned).  I went for an ali one because a) its cheap b) it is still light (about 7kg rigged) c) it is low risk d) I don't believe I need a flexible top on the wing mast with a fat square head.  The boom is the same section as the mast, so that's ali too.  But carbon spars do look nice, so may be next time...

JPBuzz, yup that was me, probably.

Looks great, but how come the bottom panels are so rounded at the transom? Is this something the wooden boats have been doing? They were always flat when I was a lad!

Edit: Just looked at the Mirror rules and they are not flat but have to have 6mm +/-3mm of "round", so you're allowed anywhere between 3 and 9mm of "round" on the bottom panels at the transom, but only 3mm max. at station 1, which is 700mm further forward. It seems strange to me to have the bottom panels curved only 3mm at station 1, then quickly changing to a much bigger curve at the transom. If I was making a Mirror I'd have 3mm of round at station 1 and 3mm at the transom, making a straight run-off aft.

I didn't know you could get Autoglass to fix your boat! I wonder if they'd come to our beach and repair "that little chip I can't be bothered with and that's going to develop into a nasty crack as soon as it gets cold"...

The rudder cassette slot isn't straight.
Don't suppose it matters too much though.
