Hi all, have some questions for you.
I have been thinking about buying a rs300, but it seems there are no secondhand rs300's on the market, although there are some "rumors" that new rs300's are build buy rssailing.
The second problem is of that most people in Belgium sail Finns, Lasers, 420's, 470's, 490's and other "old designs", and I really would like some modern dinghy.
I will sail almost for 90% on small inland lakes, so skiffs are not an option.
I am 6.1 feet and weigh around 13 stone, so I thought also about a Phantom, but they also don't exist in Belgium.
What would you do?

Leave Belgium? I'm half serious. When I was running a 5-person keelboat I had crew from half the countries in Europe at one time or another, most of them working in London.

Well, that's not an option for me at the moment. :-)
If I can't find a secondhand rs300, I will buy a Finn.

I'm going to contact the guy on the rs association site, to see if it is still for sale. I will make a trip to th e UK then.
It's just a problem over here to get something "modern".
Over here there are just a bunch of old farts, who still think that a 420 from the 60's with 10 year old sails is fast and competetive. :-)
The development is happening in the UK and we lag years on that. The youth is not in 49's or Musto Skiffs, but in Lasers or Europe's, and I think that's not so helpfull, because the modern designs "create" much better sailors IMHO.

Thanks

Hi Johannes,

You could also take a look at

There are a couple of 300's on the site but they have been on since April and May and may now have been sold.

There is a problem finding 2nd hand 300s at the moment, mine sold less than 3 hours after going on the rs association website (as I said elsewhere on the forum).  A batch of 5 new 300s were built earlier this year and I'm fairly sure the rumour about another batch being built is true.  Probably best to contact LDC
