Subject: Is the Zhik harness worth the money?

I'm replacing my harness and want to know if the Zhik one is worth the money.

- I have (and not using) a banks nappy harness.  It used to be really comfortable, but for no apparent reason, it became really uncomfortable.

- I sail RS800s and 49ers, therefore would prefer the nappy style or something with minimal straps

- Prefer not to have a spreader bar (long day on the water it really digs into my hips.)

- Not fussed if it has a QRH (none of my harnesses have one)

Many thanks

I like the Zhik and have just purchased a replacement for my original - it always feels cumfy and unobtrusive.

It does have a spreader bar built in though which I've never had a problem with as it reduces pelvic compression...

I have one and can't say i have ever noticed i am wearing it - really comfortable and has worn really well.  Its the mk1 version and teh mk2 is supposed to be better finished too.

Well worth it IMHO.

The only way to know with a harness is to try it on.

I have the Zhik harness and really like it, I sail a Tornado so am in and out and moving about all the time.

The velcro makes it really adjustable and also removes straps.

Thanks for all of the comments.  I know trying on the harness is the only way, but wandering around the store/hanging off a 'trapeze wire' for 5 minutes isn't going to give you an idea of x hours on the water in a F4-5 etc.

As much as I loved my olde harness, as I said, for no apparent reason, after 18 months or so, it felt like it was going to cut me half.  Hence the concern of harnesses with err hard materials.

My concern re the spreader bar is, I'm a girl and obviously we have broader hips.  I would be really interested in other girl's opinions.

Without wanting to hyjack someone elses thread or start a new one along the same lines, LDC had a 20% off day last week on Magic Marine Harnesses and as I only have an old hobbiecat harness I purchased a new MM Ultimate Trapeze Harness 2. Are these any good? I've not even tryed it on yet.

TBH, I woudnt know a good one from a bad one, Im just getting back in to sailing after a 15 year break and its going to be a while before I'm getting out in trapezeing conditions. It has lots more adjustments now compaired to the old pos I used to use, with straps and buckles everywhere....looks kind of fettish lol

If you find a spreader bar harness uncomfortable you will struggle with the Zhik which has a spreader bar. I find it really difficult when twisting to face forward.

Seems to fit nicely so I'll keep hold of it. Far better and less restrictive than the cheap old nappy harness I used 15 years ago. Smile

Can't comment on the new design but I love my old style Zhik harness. No problems with bar and girlie hips when sailing.

Go for the Shock Sailing Harness, no buckles to get caught on and well worth the price. http://www.shocksailing.com/shop/trapeze_harness.html
