I'm trying to identify the make of a boat from the following description:

41 foot.
3000KG torpedo bulb on the bottom of an 8 foot fin keel.
Symmetric and Asymmetric spinnakers.
Bowsprit.
Non overlapping sales.
IRC optimised.
Good in heavy airs.
Designed by one of the world's best yacht designers.

So far I've been told it's NOT a J boat, an X boat, a Benneteau or a Farr.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

James.

if it is red, then i think you are talking about crakin rosie, she is a corby 40

By bowsprit, do you mean proper bowsprit for assys, or a stump for a zero?

Summit 40? Or a Mills one-off - maybe one of the 43s? (2ft over I know, but...)

I'm afraid she's white.

Our owner has just bought a new boat but he's keeping the make secret until she's delivered.  There are beers to be won by the first person to identify her.

Bowsprit for an asymmetric.

Summit 40 matches perfectly and I've found this on Ancasta => http://www.ancasta.com/archived_boat_details/?BoatId=24876

Apart from the price which looks way over budget, everything else matches.

Thanks.

James.

Asking price =/= price accepted. Especially in a buyers' market.

Apparently it's not a Summit 40.

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

The latest is the skipper is being cagey with his wording - "you can fit a bowsprit to any boat".

So, we are looking for a heavily rated IRC boat, 41 foot long with a 3000KG torpedo on an 8 foot fin keel, non overlapping sails and adapted to use a bowsprit and asymmetrics.  He also described it as the "world's most successful designer's take on irc".

After all this trouble it really better be something special!

So probably something without a sprit as standard,
MAT 12?

Maybe look at the designers it could be instead,
R/P
Humphreys
Juan K
Mills
Corby

Are the only ones that come to mind, AFAIK Juan K and R/P hasnt done a 41ft IRC boat thats based in this part of the world, so that just leaves the other 3.

Sounds awfully like a Bene First 40 with a bowsprit! I hear sunsail are fitting bowsprits to their fleet of F40s too although their ones dont have a T bulb. After some of the ideas posted around here the F40 would be a massive letdown!

Can we link this to the '505's are very expensive' thread?

Could be a lot of things depending on how you define 'successful designer'.
Sparkman and Stevens?
Herreshoff?
Who won the most America's Cups?

I used to sail a Lightwave 395 which had the draft, there was one with a sprit IIRC, but I guess that would be in the classics regatta these days?

Well you can rule out....

Grand Soleil - No 41
Archambault - no torpedo keel
Salona - no torpedo keel

However, the new Dehler 41  is an almost exact fit.

Torpedo keel, 8 foot draft - 2,995kg.  Symetrical as standard, designed by Judel / Vrolijk

I reckon it is Oystercatcher XXVI, a Humphries design built for the GP/IRC 42 rulings for Richard Matthews. Very successful boat in the UK and the Caribbean and fits the description pretty much exactly!
