Subject: Solo Skiff

I have currently been sailing a V15. I find myself often sailing alone which is not too fun. Is there a 12-14 ft skiff with an aysimentrical foresail that I can rig and sail solo and enjoy the speed aspect of skiff sailing? From my research, it seems that the MX-RAY is the boat I am looking for but it is out of production.

Thank you for your imput.

If you want to trap then Musto Skiff if not well you are a bit stuck.
although you do find the odd MX-Ray up for sale and then tend to be
good value, look here: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/
mxray/
- http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/mxray/
I have an MX-Ray and although fleet racing is out of the question it is one
of the most fasinating boats to sail. And the off wind speed is unreal!

There is a new version of the MX-Ray that has come out in North America
call the Stealth. Look here: http://www.stealthsailing.com - http://www.stealthsailing.com

You know I have no idea? It's sort of Laser speed upwind and windsurfer
speed downwind. How's that?

I'd say it was a lot easier to sail than a Moth. And I think that if there had
been more returns the PY would be a bit lower. But that's only an
estimation.

I forgot about the RS Vario, not sure how relavant an Aysmetric is on it.
i.e might be faster just to go straight down hill. Of course i could be
talking out the back of my head, as I've no idea how quick they are.

What a surprise someone is suggesting the MPS' PY is a bit strange.

Not enough MPS' in the US to make a fleet let alone a class but there is a growing class of SwiftSolos. These seem to be doing a number on the MPS in anything up to 20kts. Several hulls under way in the UK now, but not enough to make a fleet either.  Would be interesting to get a good MPS sailor in a Swift and see how it compares. However, there far too much of the bullsh*t about whats the best skiff, single or otherwise. Sailing any kind of skiff or highperformancedinghy is a sh*te load more spectacular than sitting on the rail of a lead mine. Getting this message out should be our misson !!!!!

Christ if a 65yo old fart with weak upperbody strength and a flatulence problem can sail a Swift nicely in F5 then some of those yachties could too.

Sandy

Thanks for all the feedback. Still narrowing it down. The Musto looks interesting. Can the Musto be sailed fairly aggressively without going out on the wire?

Take care because Christ may have loads of experience and be able to sail a donkey in 30+

If you are skiff sailor you may be able to upgrade quite fast , on the contrary it can takes time to get to this level. Anyway it is always exhilarating

... I wouldn't sail a MPS without wiring .

By the way how much do you weigh? It kind of has an effect on which boat
you go for.

Whats your role in the MPS fleet Rick?

Are you being, or have you been, payed by Devoti to promote the class.

I remember you seemed to have an agenda in other threads so lets not get into it again. Why dont you put your affiliation in your posts on this forum just so that people know where you are coming from and can evaluate you comments with the correct weight.

Enjoy your breakfast.

I dont know if he is being payed or not but you'l find that any mps sailor u speak to is as enthusiastic about the boat! Which must say something for it!!

I think that goes for most sailors in most classes.....

Why sail a boat if you don't like it?

Sandy,

I have owned an MPS for 3 years, I sit on the class association comittee as the communications rep and I also do a bit of work for Victor Boat who promote the class world wide.

Yeah I love sailing the MPS, yes I think it's a great boat and yes I have a commercial interest - so what ...

My posting name is clear and my footer gives out web addresses with details.

I can still have my opinion can't I?

What is you job?

Rick

Well, in the few months I sailed one last year, I thought they were quite a nice boat with a very friendly class association.  But that's just my opinion .

If that should be "our" mission, who do you think "we" are? Funny but I didn't think this was exclusively a skiff-sailors website, or that Y&Y was only for dinghy sailors. Quite apart from the fact that plenty of people sail both dinghies and "lead mines".
