Just a quick reminder it is the Grafham Cat Open on 22-23 October. The NOR has been posted on the Club website (a link is provided below)

The event is based on what we have done over the last couple of years. This year we are not insisting on pre-entry but will be charging a £10 premium for those that enter on the day. We hope that most will pre-enter by noon on Friday to enable us to enter the competitors properly in Sailwave and to enable us to allocate separate stick on sail letters to those with duplicate sailnumbers. This helps us with fast and accurate preparation of the results at the end of the event but we reckon we can manage OK if the majority pre-enter.

On the Saturday evening we are doing the same as we have done the last couple of years. That is to serve a 2 course meal in the upstairs bar and show sailing dvds on the big screen. Showing the dvds gives people something to watch but does not stop conversation like discos and the like.  We urge the competitors to book their meal when they enter. Details are on the Notice of Race.

During the last 2 years of the Grafham Cat Open (2009 and 2010) we have suffered from vandalism and significant damage being inflicted on both GWSC and village property mainly in the evenings of Friday and Saturday. This has been very troublesome and reflects pooly on GWSC with our neighbours in the village. The Grafham Water Sailing Club Council has decided that if we get similar problems again then the Cat Open will not be run in future years so they have asked me to pass this message on to the representatives.

As you will appreciate we desperately do not want this to be the situation. I would grateful if you can spread the word around your fleet to be on good behaviour such that the Cat Open can continue for many years to come.

Regards

Bob Carter

For those that want to come on the Friday evening the following are the arangements. The Club grounds will be open on Friday night so you can drop your boat off. There will be Fish and Chips available from a van out side the club from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. The bar will be open during the evening and the toilets will be open through the night.Smile

Hi,
You can snail mail the entry form but if you want to leave it late it is best to do it by phone. Just call 01480 810478 and tell the office all the info that the entry form requires and pay by credit card. You can do this right up until Noon on Friday 21 OctoberSmile .

So I hear that some n*b-heads spoiled the event again. Sprint 15's throwing an impromptu prize giving in the car park for their fleet.

Shame that Grafham is the victim of this again. Not sure why it only happens here......or maybe not!

Yes - it is very frustrating. That is 3 years we have had malicious damage during the Friday / Saturday evenings. This year it happened on the Friday evening and a new £450 sign at the entrance to the Club was wrecked. As it happened before racing the commodore took the position at the briefing that if we did not catch the culpret there would be no prizes and the prize fund would be used to compensate the trader who had just bought the sign.
The damage was probably just caused by an individual or two. It is a really no win situation.
- The Grafham club members and organisers feel agrieved and say " why should we hold a Cat Open?"
- in previous years property in the village has been damaged and causes the village to feel hostile to the sailing club.
- this year the cat sailors taking part got no prizes from the sailing club and they feel unhappy with the club. Undoubtedly 99%+ of the cat sailors had nothing to do with it.
You can see the position from all sides.
The sooner we find the responsible parties and stamp it out the better. Meanwhile the future of the cat open is in the ballance..............Cry
Bob

PS It is such a shame as the weather and racing was superb this year. One traveller said to me " I had forgotten how good racing at Grafham can be.

Unfortunately I missed it this year as I'm currently fixing leaks in my boat!

However, I heard that the racing was great and the club hosted a top event. Grafham is one of my favourite inland venues and I have fond memories of learning to sail there as a cadet.

Its a real shame that individuals ruin it for everyone else. I wouldn't blame your members if they never bothered in the future. Hopefully class captains will assist in rooting out trouble makers and banning them

If you are the person or persons involved....just don't come back if the club do run it next year.

Save the event for the people who do know how to behave.
