2.4mr - cost & availability?

I'm looking at dinghies for my mum, who wants to get back into sailing again at 70 after a very long absence but has one very bad leg that hasn't fared well with any of the boats she's tried so far (Laser 2000, Comet, Mirror etc).

Someone suggested a sailability boat, probably the 2.4mr - it sounds like a great idea but I'm struggling to find any details on who makes them, cost, availability etc. Can anyone tell me more?

All help much appreciated.

Hi barclay174,

You have not said what type of sailing your mum wants to do or how much her disability impairs her. If she just wants to sail around a small reservoir, or similar, then one of the Access boats might be appropriate:

Steve and Ron Sawford are smashing blokes and are very approachable, I knew them from when I sailed Dart 15's, years ago. However, I cannot comment about the boats as I have never seen one. I hope that this helps.

My mother is based in Weymouth so will be sailing in Portland harbour - & her problem is one leg with a very bad knee & ankle (ancient skiing injury), which is very susceptible to any sort of jarring motion (such as is rather the norm on boats.....). The Access boats look very interesting tho, I'll investigate further.
