does anyone know how it would be possible to film some of my sailing. Perhaps through a small headcam or securing a waterproof videocam to the mast or something?

Any ideas?

If you do get one that goes on your head, do make sure you judge for that extra room needed to duck under the boom.......otherwise you may have a few problems!!!

£149

It seems really cheap to me. It depends on the camera quality of course.

Alternatively you could be looking at £1500 so I would say £149 is a good
price, esspecially as it is wireless and waterproof. They were at the Dinghy
Show. I would say the quality was acceptable, not broadcast or DV quality
but more like VHS.

The footage I did was for a Radial Radials (which was shown on Eurosport). They did not use much of the footage when I wore the camera (I was swearing lots because I was last!) but they used quite a lot taken by Steve Cockerill.

£150 isn't bad, if the footage is relatively good, but I might need to upgrade it to the 1km range. Going to look into it

Jon

My son uses a cheap camera from the gadget shop (which also takes MPG4 videos) which he bolts to his bike helmet. http://ftmb.net/photos/image.php?imgid=1298 It might be possible to do something similar. Keeping it waterproof might be a challenge (as would low booms). But, you could, for example, bolt something like this to a clip that went round your mast with an arm (like the little hawk?). His camera is not waterproof but you could always see what waterproof cameras were avaialble or make up / buy a perspex box.

Would it fall off the helmet or do you have to drill a hole into the helmet to hold it in? How much do the cameras cost and whats the video quality like? It looks like a cheaper alternative to the £150 camera. Will look into it.

If you cant get hold of a head cam cheap enough, get a cheap plain digital vid cam, or borrow one n get someone with a steady hand to drive the rib real close with sumone filming - works quite well you can follow and comment on heel, from slighly to the side in front to look down the shape of the sail, alongside to watch what the sailors are doing etc

I got exactly the same need as I'd like to have picture from us on water to show people the exilarating sensation of a Cherub or an int 14 jumping from one wave to another or some nice triple loots around forestay.

My only contraint is I don't want to have an onshore videorecorder or whatever as  1 km to respect is not a lot when you are flyin' such bullets.
