hi, i just got a laser and on the transom there is is a mark just above the gudgeons where the lighting board attachment has been rubbing, it is relitively deep and is past the outer layer of the hull (through the grey bit) does any one have any ideas on how to fix it? Could I just use a gel coat kit from rooster?

Yep. Get a gel coat repair kit of the right shade, & do just that....It's not too hard a job - provided the ambient temp is warm enough. Apply masking tape - to protect surrounding area. Make sure it's nice n clean by abrading it (scratch up the surface of the wound), wipe thoroughly with alcohol to de grease & remove dust. Apply gel coat. Allow to harden thoroughly. Sand down with increasingly finer & finer grades of wet & dry till smooth, then polish up with rubbing compound to match the surrounding area.

If you put tape over the repair then you will greatly reduce the amount of sanding you need to do.

If it's chaffing damage then you will need to make it worse before you make it better. Cut around the damaged area with a sharp knife and dig it out so you have a clean line between the damage and the good gelcoat, this will give you something to fill up to with the new gelcoat. If you just apply gelcoat over the top of the damage you will end up with a lump where you have filled.

All above comments are very helpful, however if you put up a picture, I am sure someone will be able to advise better.

This an American website but don't let that put you off. Lots of info on repairs + pics. Do a search [hidden in toolbar at top] for say gelcoat.

"Would it be class legal to maybe have a small portable sound system on Laser?"

I like the way they think! Perhaps we can get Rooster to do a waterproof Laser mountable boom box?Wink
