Hiya everyone!

Are you going to the Contender Nationals in Porthpean this weekend? It starts on Sat 21st May and ends on Tues 24th. Contender443 will be there, together with the rest of the family. Mike, Matt and all other Contender sailors, are you going? Watch out for the French woman with 2 little girls and a dog, that'll be me !

To everyone else who's staying at home, it's a bit of a respite: I'll be away from my computer for A WEEK !!! We're coming back Friday 27th.

Have fun without me  and, if you're in St Austells, come and say hi!

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Please come along, even to watch! With weather forecast, it should be interesting to see from the shore

The boys will be having fun getting the boats up from the beach after sailing...there is a LOVELY huge ramp going down.  We did the Tasar nationals there a few years back and it was definitely a case of 3 or 4 people to each boat to get them up and down!

Great club though - and the racing area is superb.

BNS I take it you will be disappearing off to the Lost Gardens of Helligan too to while away the hours...have fun!

I second that about the ramp at Portpean. The Fireball nats were there last year when they asked what they could do to improve things....the unanimous shout was 'Get a winch!'.

Aside from that it is lovely to sail in but it gets awfully shifty near the beach (just pray you don't get a south easterly either)...

3 or 4 on a Tasar? Jeez that'll be more like 4 or 5 for a Contender then.

I went to see the Lost Gardens of Heligan once... I couldn't find it. After an hour driving around the right place we asked someone and they didn't know where it was either but they phoned someone else who did. Fairly impressive but full of (really) old people.

Sounds like the whole family is going to have fun! It seems the campsite's only 1 1/2 miles from the Lost Gardens of Heligan... With a bit of luck, I might have located them by the end of the week!
As for the old people, I'll be in my element there... Today, with all the rush, I feel quite old   We're off tomorrow morning, yipee!

I'll be back next week with pictures I hope...

Just got back from Porthpean - you  were right about that ramp. And because it had been so wet  the compound was very muddy as well.

The club is extremely sheltered from the wind so you have no idea that it is blowing 30 knots out there with big waves.

Least said about my results the better!! It all started with a broken shroud/trapeze wire after rounding the windward mark in race 1. Lets say I got very wet and was lucky to keep my mast!!

Next to go was my halyard and finally my nerve when it was blowing and forecast to get stronger.

On the final day the committee boat could not get out of the harbour so we did not get to go out.

anyway, next year.....

Sounds like you did well to survive let alone race...

It was quite windy, even to watch. The beach is rather sheltered, but the open bay was wooooohoooooooo!

Besides, the fleet got regularly drenched by refreshing squalls of pelting rain and hailstones... Tough guys, the Contenders....

The rest of Cornwall is gorgeous (well, the bit I saw, on land ) and I'd love to go there again - no need to take the boat as an excuse though!!!

Blobby's in Singapore, 8 hours ahead of us. He's just arrived to the office when we're thinking that bed might be an option after all.

I am near Brighton (UK) but I can take as an excuse that I'm not wearing a watch ...

Other people post from the USA, Australia or more exotic places. The sun never sets on the Y&Y forum (sounds like a good slogan! Pity it's already been done ... )

The funny thing is, you're contagious!

When you reply to a PM, the text of the previous message is included, with the local time you received it. Yesterday, 30th May at 8.30am, I opened the answer of a PM you received on 30th May at 10.16am... Yipeee!! We'ere getting back in time!

PS. Can you tell me the winning numbers for the Lottery, pleeeeeeaaaaase?
