We were out on the 49er yesterday, didn't look too windy until we got out there and it was at least a constant 5, beautiful weather though. Had a real good blast and learned a hell of a lot about the boat. Got a slow motion pitchpole in and have bruises all over me. Why can't every weekend be like this

The weather was great for what I wanted to do yesterday: take photos from the rescue boat. There wasn't too much wind, quite flat sea, sunshine... There were quite a few boats of various classes out, the rescue boat team was happy to have me on board, everything was fine
I got in my wetsuit, grabbed the camera, ran down the beach, took a couple of shots of people launching and................. the batteries died!
Of course, the spare batteries were sitting at home, on my desk all along ! ARRGH!
Next time, maybe...

Was out on Saturday for our Laser open. Decided during the second race
that I should have stayed in bed and kept nice and warm as swimming was
just no fun!
All in all it was a good event and we all had fun in the breeze!
(Where's my radial gone...would have been ideal for it on Saturday :-S)

I was team racing on saturday - far too much wind for
it, but great fun to blast about the place. One bloke
did a proper T-bone on a Laser 2, putting a hole, 6"
accross, right in the side of the boat. It was great, you
could see right inside the hull, up and down...

Was out but we had a sea breeze fighting the gradient all day so had 1 race in 2 different winds: 1 on the shore and 1 further out! then a cracking sea breeze race and then a crappy race where on the last lap the two winds cancelled each other out and we drifted about whith huge waves coming over the stern!

I was on the Medway, it was a light easterly and the sea breeze didn't materialise. Its hard to beat the Ospreys in such conditions but its even worse for the RS800s.

We were out on Sunday...35 degrees C in the shade, wind 6 - 8 kts, just me and the boy in the 420. The boat didn't sink or break so counts as an excellent days sailing!

Hi Simon,
We decided against skiffing on Saturday due to the dodgy forecast. Instead we went and crewed for my Dad in the XOD down in Lymington.
As it was on Saturday everyone went out with the No.2 rigs as it was blowing around 20 knots only for the wind to drop to 12 knots and they all had a day wallowing around very underpowered so we didn't miss much - definitely had the best of it on Sunday and Mike Rice got some great shots of us on http://www.fotoboat.com - www.fotoboat.com

Medway was fantastic on Sunday. Rigging whistling in the gusts so obviously a bit of a blow which put some people off. n the morning it wasn't as windy as it looked and at times I couldn't keep the crew on the wire.
First race we got a good start and kept ahead of the fleet except a Vortex Assymetric (so you can tell it was downwind and windy). We soon despatched the Vortex on the long beat back to the club and finished miles in front of everybody to discover we hadn't signed on.
Second race was windier and there were some very viscious gusts. A downwind start again and a 800 capsized in a gust in front of us. We couldn't bear away because of moored boats and there was no way we were going to climb up in a gust so rather than hit them we capsized, but got the kite down quickly and got away with the pack only a 200m in front. One long leg was a bit tight so had to 2 sail reach a very tricky point of sailing in gusty conditions in a 4000. Dropped it in twice more on gybes but soon caught up with the rest when beating. We finished 2nd on the water but 4th on handicap, but what I really liked was our upwind boat speed. We caught and sailed through the lee of the other 4000 and overtook an Osprey like it was standing still. If you sail a 4000 like a Laser it is just a little bit faster upwind - but if you sail it with the jib full and driving and the main flattened and just used to balance the boat then you go twice as fast.
Downwind was spectacular too. We caught one gust with a bit of water to spare to leeward, we just bore away and put as much leverage on the hull as we could and we went to what we call Mach2. The 4000 hums when you plane and if you get a puff and go faster still, it wails like a banshee, but when you're really motoring it all goes quiet again - we call that Mach2, its erie.
Do you know the crew said to me, "our boat doesn't point does it", I could have hit him.

We had a gentle F2 on sunday, but there were a couple of gusts coming through that were more like F4 and it dropped to nothing at one point as the lines of cloud came through, made life intersting. Still we got four wins out of four, and in the last race we beat a unicorn over the water, I'm so glad I took the time out to check my rig and fix the mast rake. Never thought it would make THAT much difference. Can't wait to see how we do at the next open.

talking about results etc, had a great sail on sun I was realy quite impressed with the 200 I was beating a fireball over the water, (until a dodgy gybe ) tis the first time i have helmed one and had a novice crew (also my sister to make matters more akin to peace talks )
the wind was realy gusty and shifty, the conditions managed to bemuse all the visitors on sat, (and some of the locals too)
but it was soo good to be on the water again

Fantastic weekend - team racing at spinnaker SC -
lots of wind. Unfortunatley, someone smashed into
my rudder upwind - wrenching the tiller out my hand
and crash tacking me. In a 'desperate attamnpt' at
dry capsize, I missed the centre board with my feet,
and smashed it with my legs - severe pain . Have
just discovered I've badly bruised my shin bones all
the way down. Off sailing for a good two
weeks!! (might actually make me do some
work...)
