Hi, My partner and I would are keen to purchase a 2 person sailing dinghy and are looking for advise on a suitable boat to suit our combined weight of about 200kg. The key ingredient is that we want something that would be easy for a single person to sail as well and for that person to be able to launch it themselves off the beach. We have a budget of about £2000. Thanks in advance

I was thinking something along the lines of a Laser 2000.

Are you doing inland or sea sailing, are you of equal weight? Are you planning on racing or just cruising.

Thanks for response, We will be sea sailing and a bit of racing but just for the fun of it. We are not of equal weight. We are about 110kg and 70kg

L2000 is a nice boat, and plenty are sailed singlehanded on our lake. You'd need to choose your weather on the sea, mind. They can be reefed, I believe. Comet Trio would be worth a look, as they are a fairly stable boat with a nice turn of speed, which is very easily slab reefed if singlehanded and the wind picks up.

Both boats are fairly heavy, though, and could be tricky to launch (and especially recover) by ones self. Mind you, most boats are if there are any waves.

might have trouble getting a 2000 with a budget of £2,000 very rare at that price

You could do a whole lot worse than go down the Jack Holt
route.

There is a GP14 that would suit you in the Y&Y
classifieds for £2000...

You're really probably asking a bit much to get a 2 man
boat that will carry 200 kgs but could be singlehanded
easily.

I've have a look at Laser 2000 and cant find anything around the 2k mark. I probably wont be sailing single very often but was just looking at this as an option. The ability to launch singlehanded is really just to ensure we can get launched without bothering anyone else. I'll have a look at the GP14

An Albacore? Can be sailed s/h by someone of 90kg+ fairly easily, and some are even rigged for s/h sailing. Faster than a L2000 too, but no spinnaker to play with. Ease of launch/recovery s/h dependent on steepness of slipway, but def possible
