Hi, I'm looking for a dinghy that's suitable for my size and weight. I'm a right chunky monkey- 19.5st (approx 125kg) and 6'5'' tall. I recently sold my Phantom due to having knee problems (pre weight gain issue ) so have been on the look out for a post 2000 Devoti Finn hull, however these are like hens teeth at the mo, and all the newer ones that are about are over my budget (6.5k). Is there anything else I could try? Possibly a two man boat that's easy to sail single handed? The new K1?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Ben

Albacores carry weight very well.

RS200 can be sailed single handed, or maybe a 2000, something the jib can be rolled up may help if the wind increases.

I always found that the blaze was a kneeling boat similar to the Phantom.

There are New Phantoms around without the double bottom which would make it kinder on the knees.

Finn i should imagine would be a good choice if you want to sick with a singlehander.  Have you checked out Suntouched sailboats website as i know Rodney has some used boats on here.  He may also know of some coming up for sale.

We have just had a new K1 delived to Tewkesbury, i looks like it has loads of space under the boom and like a really comfortable ride.  It also has pleanty of sail area and i think it could so with a tall heavy helm to get it going up wind.

I really like the look of it!  Why on't you go for a test sail in one???

I've contacted the K1 website twice and am still waiting to hear back off them, not a good start. I've been in touch with Rodney at Suntouched sailboats too who's been really helpful, so cheers for that.

if you still want a test sail, use the mobile number on the Vandercraft web site, gets him every time, and there is a new list of dates for a test sail.

Good writeup of the K1 in the latest Y&Y. Might be fun to have a play in one soon, though how would it cope with a weedy lake?
