Given that all forumites are clearly people of taste and
sophistication, can I ask you if you have not yet heard
6Music to give it a listen? I would recommend listening to
Guy Garvey's (he of Elbow) show as an introduction to what
is great about this station that has done so much to
support new music.

Do please give it a listen - if the crass BBC management
have their way, you will lose this wonderful asset very
soon - try it while you can.

It's an utter travesty that it may go- there really is nothing out there in the commercial world that compares.

Nah. Get rid of it and put on something we actually want to hear. All this "new" music is the same. Its too poppy and manufactured.

I could do with a nice Metal-based radio station while I am driving or at work, it would save me wasting so much money on CD's!

Please BBC, also do the decent thing. Slit Chris Evans throat and bring back Wogan in the mornings. I don't care how many "Niche" stations have to be shut down to accomplish this, but getting rid of Evans should be made priority.

The only listenable music station... it's sounds like my media player on shuffle with the addition of new music that very soon finds it's way on to my player. I will be very, very sad if it goes! Save it here:-

And/or here:-

As for Chris Evans, his afternoon show was alright and the only FM music(ish) show I listened to (except for Radcliffe and Maconie on R2 on the way home from  wed night sailing). Since he moved to breakfast he has actually become Wogan... which doesn't serve anyone well!

Try - Planet Rock

'Wasting' is an interesting word to use. If you are that bothered about
paying for someone's talent, hard work and skill for your pleasure just go
the full monty and get some pier to pier software like 'Limewire' or go to
'PirateBay' and just steal the music you want.

Jack - TPB have had my business for many years, and I do buy music of artists I genuinely support.

And no, I havn't listened to 6Music. Far too much hard work to retune the radio from the decent (Finnish!) radio station its currently on. (To tell the truth, I hadn't heard about 6Music until all this uproar started .. The name reminds me of 5Live, which I associate with rubbish.)

I note noone here has made a fuss yet about the BBC Asian radio station that I heard was going to get the chop at the same time as 6m.

I believe that 6 music is a digital station & the Asian network & the website are all digi operations.

(I can`t get the digi services where I live)

I thought that the Beeb was meant to be at the fore front of the digi revolution.

So why are they planing to bin them.

I think its awful, its a shame to see that in the face of pressure from commercial broadcasters and the threat of torrys cutting back funding the bbc have preemptively
dropped their pants and bent over, instead of fighting it.

It's a real shame that 6music is going too, although I only occasionally listen to it for the funk and soul show, I support the fact that 6music exists to play neiche music
that is still going strong despite a lack of commercial interest. Something that isn't catered for by any other channel.

It's even more of a shame considering 6music costs £9million to run, which is 12x less than radio 4. Although to be fair, radio 4 accounts for 12.5% of bbc's radio viewing,
and 6music only 0.4%
