Have I missed a thread somewhere?

Rio looks a great location for the Olympics. All sports (except soccer) within the city so the sailors will really be part of those games, the time difference will mean the coverage is on in our evening, average midday temperature of 24.2 °C. Perfect as I see it.

And that means at the end of the 2012 games Britain has to give the Olympic flag to Brazil. Should get Ainslie to hand it to Scheidt.

Suddenly I feel inspired for a campaign - Rio sounds great! Anyone?! Haha!

On a serious note, its great that it has gone to a city with so much social divide, lets hope it means Rio will be a better place for everyone who lives there.  The first time its gone to South America apparently.

I wonder if they will bring in a foiler for 2016, it would be highly entertaining, and they will have been around for years by then. Standardized, not development of course.

I reckon london should now give up on trying to host anything other than a "passable" games.

They said that on BBC Radio the other day..........what about the 1968 Mexico Olympics? That was the controversial one because it was held at relatively high altitude and also featured the 'black power salute' incident after the 200m race,

Well as far as I am aware Mexico is in Latin America, it borders onto the USA and the entire country is north of the equator, quite a distance from South America and I'm pretty sure most Mexicans will be pretty upset you consider it part of South America.

Mexico is definitely North America. Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mexico_%28orthographic_projection%29.svg -

Presumably the sailing will take place at Buzios which is pretty accustomed to hosting some major regattas.  But it's also well known for street crime and muggings...

Hopefully the cash that may come in will go some way to helping fight the real poverty in Rio.  Somehow I doubt it.
