Hi,

Can anyone help me with PY numbers for either the Topper Omega or RS Vision.

We will have both boats racing this season, but I can't find any listings for either boats. Even the Manufacturer's haven't responded with any help!!

Thanks in anticipation

All you can do if you have no info, is to start by noting where the boats finish in races, and base the trial number on that (say they finish near the GP14's give them the GP handicap for 3 races till you see how fair it seems, then adjust to what you think seems fair. If one of the Vision sailors used to come near the back in a different class, and is now winning, it would suggest the handicap needs lowering, for instance. Lots of trial and error needed. Then at the end of the year, tell the RYA where you have got to in your returns, so they can give the boat a provisional number for other clubs to try out. Good luck!

Rupert,

Thanks for that, yes we would go along similar lines , but I was hoping others were already racing and have had some rating already tried. Currently we are using 1063 for the Vision, but no-one appears to be raing the Omega - I wonder why!

Thanks Kasey,

What do you sail, is the boat influenced by tidal conditions?

I sail at Lakeside SC, Peterborough......no tides as it's inland and quite a small lake.

1075 is the RYA PY number that my friend who sails the omega found...not sure where he got it tho.

I sail a Kestrel, laser4000, buzz, solo and RS200.....haven't had a go in the omega yet.

Thanks again Kasey. I also heard from Topper today, who also confirm 1075.

Looks like we now have numbers for both boats.

Regards,

Peter

At present the only yardstick I have been able to obtain, is from another coastal club close to us who is operating on 1063. As yet I have had no feed back from LDC as to any provisional rating. However I would have thought it unlikely to be the same as the Vision is a much faster & lighter boat than the Omega. But I am still waiting to be told different!

Thanks & regards,

Peter

Sorry - but why do you want to race an omega? Ive sailed them - you roll tack em, they stall - you try and bear away in a gust - they carry on and fall over! Totally unresponsive and are tanks! no offence - but why not get a laser2, firefly etc?

Sounds like the Omega boat is named after the Omega car!

We used 1034 for the RS Vision.  At  present  we  have only had 1 race and only a laser  and  1 of 3 Visions finished . The Vision  that finished  was helmed by  the  same standard of helm as the Laser  with the addition of 2 junior  crew.  The wind was 2  dropping to  0.  Sea state  smooth. Neap tide. Course  Triangle. Location  East Cowes SC.
Laser elapsed 52m57 corrected 49m07
RS Vision elapsed 51m12  corrected 49.31

Kidlington Sailing Association sailed the RS Vision durring 2004 against many types of boats. Unfortunately I have no address for them but the results can be found at www.k-s-a.homecall.co.uk/race 191204.htm
