So after sailing a radial for about 5 years I'm now looking into a performance singlehander. My main issue is that I only weight about 62KG (and will not be putting on any weight anytime soon) which rules out most options as I sail on the sea. I'm not too bothered about racing against the same class as there is a real mix of boats at the club.

The only boat I can think of to suit my needs is a moth. Hydrofoiling is banned by the habour master, although I would be willing to travel to a different club in the future should I decide to give foiling a go. I don't really know a great deal about the boat, so

Just how tippy are they? I don't mind a lot of swimming while i'm learning, however I don't want a boat that's going to fall over every 100 yards even after a couple of seasons in the boat.

How fast are they without the hydrofoils?

Is it a realistic challenge for someone who is an average (at best) club sailor, but willing to put the practice in?

Will it fall apart everytime I go out?

They are tippy, but not beyond the grasp of most dedicated club sailors. Getting them going is the hard part, followed by turning corners - a bit of flotation under the wing bars will help.

Good lowriders are hard to come by, but if you can find a half tidy composite one it should be pretty solid and not break too much (disclaimer, moths are built right on the limit, don't abuse it!)

They are rapid, still one of the fastest hiking boats going (I think only the canoe is faster) and very rewarding. If you can helm one, anything is easy afterwards...

Curious to know where you sail that has banned foilers?

Thanks for the advice.

It's the habour master rather then the sailing club who has banned foiling. It wouldn't really be suitable for foiling anyway.
