Right.
You might remember the Europe thread but that might become irrelivant in this sencario.

Anyway, I might be joining the Royal Navy, my Training would start January (ish things change) anyway I'd be home 6 weeks of the year so why get a racing class Like the Europe or CII if you see where I'm coming from.

So im looking for a boat thats needs to fill 3 boxes.

Be sutable for a 60KG+ sailor (ideally below 64KG im about 61-62)

Be sutable for restricted water (mostly for depth so no foilers)

Be a laugh to sail (doesnt have to be design perfect)

(around £2000 mark.)

I was thinking RX Ray?
I know its not so hot upwind but the kite looks a laugh

Or a Topas Race X.
Not exactly exiting I have sailed on once.

Topaz tres,
I know its a doublehander for youth but \i thought solo with trapeze and sail it with the main and Kite and its a good 700 for migets.

I can also coach on it if I wanted.

So what fun boats are there If I join?

I just thought it might be a laugh to come up with the fun boats anyway.

Thanks.

All answers however serious or in joke welcome

Why not see what the RN have to offer as part of their
Adventurous Training inventory? They have lots of dinghies
all over the place and there's more variety than just
Bosuns.

I was thinking for home time and the months before the training.
It would also be usd by family so wont be unuded in the time I'm away.

I hope too the Navy can do better than Bosun's

I believe that RNSA have Lasers, L2Ks, RS200, 400 and possibly a couple of 800s around.  Plenty to choose from.  I'm sure someone who is in RNSA will say for sure.

Still swimming with an RS700!

I really wouldn't spend my own money on a boat til you see what RNSA can offer. A couple of guys I used to know were in the RAF SA and they got fantastic deals on long term rental of boats. Would have thought RN might offer similar schemes so check this out before putting your hand in your pocket!

Yep there's definitely forces boats around, and there doesn't seem to be massive restrictions on using them in 'civils' events - thinking of some mates who've sailed RAFSA powered 4000's in the past, there's been a few army boats bobbing around the sb3 fleet as well.

there's one or two RN types that are pretty good yotters too...some lady called Penny Clark springs to mind...

personally I'd look to pick up a laser with both full and radial rigs - an older one would fit into your price bracket no probs, there easy to find (and sell on), and a 60kg sailing a full rig would find it amusing for sure...

I have done the full rig laser in a boat older than I am with the old school controll lines.
Amusing is one word i could use

And put a kite on it, like the Yanks did. That should count as fun.

Otherwise, get an IC.
