Its soon going to be that time again, I need ideas of themes to run throughout the week. We normally have a fancy dress too.

Last two years we did:
pirates
Under the sea

Anyone got other ideas, please share, however terrible you think they may be.

Cheers ChrisJ
We had the "battle of Trafalgar" that was a good year, so might go along the Navy theme as a suggestion to the comittee.

Anyother water based themes?, not easy I know!

What we started to do, at the blackwater was to just use the first letter of the cadet commodores name as the theme. This seemed to work very well, and mostly get a different letter each year.

Cheers
Chris

X mean, Fantastic Four, marvel superheroes eg Spiderman. Catwoman, Batman etc.  Then you can have heroes and villains.

Go for "sailing gear of the 1950s" so everyone can wear shorts, wool sweaters that weigh a ton when they get wet, and cumbersome orange kapok lifejackets.

Or maybe not.

A themes I have seen work well is "Book characters", which could be switched to film or TV characters as well I suppose. Or is that too broad?

Go simple - just say "crazy hats".

It may have been just me, but way back when i was a nipper I thought themes and there ilk were, to coin modern venacular, a bit lame!

Had you considered asking the little....ahem.....darlings what they want?

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

My experience is that they love having an extra side to what they're learning.  I do like the space ships idea - might persuade them to look after their boats a bit better too.

2 ideas that wen't down great in all 60 cadets at brightlingsea:

Younger cadets: (get permission from harbour master first)

Place plastic animals on various bouys and have a treasure hunt, to this day theres still a main channel marker with a 7 year old rubber cow wired to it.

Older Cadets:

Use tennis balls as projectiles and have games of tag aiming at each others sails, great fun but can tend to lead to some falling in.

I know they aren't particulary sailing education but they do provide some great fun.

You're a good sailor when you can get back!
