I've recently bought a NEW car and so don't really fancy putting my bike rack on the back as it doesn't seem to matter how tightly you adjust the straps it will always mark the paint. The option of having a roof rack to mount the bikes is an expensive one as the car is so new you have to buy the parts from Vauxhaul and they are ridiculous.

Just seen http://www.just-tow.co.uk/clipper-bike-carrier-2-bike-capacity.html - THIS seems very good value and can possibly tow the boat behind at the same time (depending on the mast and mast support).

What do people think, have people tried this product or anything similar?

They are pretty good actually, not sure about that specific one.

DO NOT forget your lighting board though!

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

I have a Witter towbar bike carrier and it works fine for 1-2 bikes. Starts getting wobbly with more.

You should be OK with towing a boat - but the weight of the bikes and the weight of the trailer add up to the allowed weight on the ball.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

My Wife and i were looking for something like that for Asbersoch Dinghy week.  Do the bikes or the rack foul the mast support or boat at all??

hi
we towed one boat had a laser on the roof and had a 2 bikes on the back all the way to salcombe, we live in yorkshire. It can be done and generally the racks/bikes doesnt foul up the mast. You just have to be prepared to stop every so often to check strapping which you should be doing with your boat anyway.

all depends on the road trailer! as i know that style bike rack and towing my 14 with the bikes would hit my mast support/the boats snout all the time.
doubt it will be ok with west mersea trailers as the mast support is fairly close to the hitch, and when you consider how long those bike racks are!

do the better option, buy a doublestacker and tie the bikes to the sides

We use that bike rack when towing boats and without.

Works perferctly fine with a boat and 3 bikes.

We have towed flying fifteens, Lasers and double trailers without problems

However, we did have to weld an extension piece onto the trailers so that the mast supports didnt foul the bars when turning tight corners.

Its a good bike rack, quick and simple to use

I think that being as the boat is about 50kg and the trailer is quite lightweight it should be fine.

Thanks for the info everyone. I know a lot of people on this forum do cycle so perhaps we should have our own cycling thread for bike chat?

Other option is putting the bikes on a roof rack..... Plenty of bike roof mounts available.  Means the mast has to sit back a bit further, but works fine.

For that I need to buy a new roof rack. Its a new Corsa which means that the roof racks are dealer only at the moment which means big prices! You're talking prices of £100 just for the bars, before you even buy the cycle carriers!

Just trying to kill 2 birds with one stone as I am going to need a tow bar at some point soon as I don't fancy car topping the Cherub really.

but you can't tow with it, but we used to just stick them on the boat

I was thinking about getting some of the roof mounted cycle carriers, and then mounting them on bars between the racks of the Cherub. That would be pretty funky.

Maybe i'll just make do with chucking the muddy bikes in the back of the car for now. Sounds a lot cheaper.
