Anyone here know anything about how to get video clips onto you tube (or something similar)? I have some footage on a JVC Everio camcorder which is a ".mod" file. I believe you tube can't read these, so on my computer I simply changed the file extension to .avi, .mpg and .mpeg, but no matter what I do I get an error when uploading on to you tube. The files are only about 1 minute long, and about 100Mb. Am I doing something stupid?

If I can't get You Tube to work, is there some other way of sharing some video footage?

Thanks.

you cannot simply change the file extension, type onto google ".mod to .avi file converter" and download one, then it will work.

Chewy,

The best free video file converter that I have found on the net is AutoGordianKnot. Its got a crazy name but its the only free software that I have found that is lossless. All the other bits of software either chuck the sound, or chop the resolution to something thats only just about viewable on an MP3/4 player.

I easily managed to convert my wedding DVDs to .avi really easily so anyone with an ounce of computer literacy should be more than capable.

Cheers Paul.  If I get it to work, I'll try and post some footage of my boat taken last weekend (rarer than hen's teeth).

I had a load of problems with footage from a Panasonic HDD camcorder last year. If you just copied the files from the disk they would come in as .mod files.

If you connect it up to some editing software (Final Cut Express in my case) and import it gets re-encoded on the fly and saved as DV which is much more editable...

Well, I tried the AutoGordian Knot thing last night - it seemed to convert the mod file to an avi, which plays okay on my PC but still won't upload to You Tube.  I will try and find the bix the camcorder came in and hope there is some software in there that can help.
