I asked this question about the Bloody Mary and got some excellent feedback so can I ask the same question about the pursuit race at the boat show this coming weekend.

Any advice on when to arrive, rigging, launching, sailing etc.

hi ian ,

i did this race for a few years twice in the laser 5000 and once in my vareo just dont take it to heart if you dont win.

i aimed to get there about 9.30 that gave us a good parking spot for the car and a good spot for rigging the boat on the beach last time as for sailing there its quite staedy up the far end but near excell its very very shifty as the wind is blocked by the flats on the south side and excell on the other it does well it did when i was there to stick tight to boats that are moored up just dont get too close as it gets very busy with everyone trying go upwind and downwind through the same bit of water,wind

First start is noon, briefing at 11 i think. If you're sailing a quicker boat you don't need to be there too early, but the parking/rigging area isn't very big so you may end up stuck at the back somewhere.

Two years ago there wasn't any catering on site, so it's worth spotting where the drive through maccyDs is on the way in!

The sailing is a bit mickey mouse - tends to be very shifty with lots of big holes.

I haven't sailed the BotC there but did take a double stacker for the London Youth games there.

We missed the leaders briefing because of traffic, once there, could park up ok but there weren't the boat/car numbers there are going to be this weekend.

I'd say get there early, just in case. Changing and toilets are limited (portoloos) and there was catering but this was in the summer.

I can't say it's a great venue - a narrow dock with blocks of flats all around it. The gusts come down vertically at times!

However, the main point of it all is to showcase your class, and bring racing to the spectators. The top sailors still rise to the top, but it is very harsh out there.

I will be emailing the SIs out to competitors later today.

i think so too, but I wouldn't rule out Steve Cockerill in the streaker either...

Steve will most likely have to battle it out with Ian (if it is light I would go for Ian, if it was windy I would go for Steve). Whereas as there is only one Phantom.

The Streaker should do better at a Pursuit race. At the Grafham Grand Prix the Phantom had a clear advantage by being in clean wind for much of the race (whereas the Streaker had to battle it out with the Radials etc.)
