We have never done this event before so can any one give us some advise on best time to arrive, rigging, changing and stuff.

We're looking forward to it but with a 6 month old daughter to think about as well timing is important.

Cheers

Ian and Hannah

Depends what you're sailing, slower boats start first. Think I was there about 9 last year for my first time too, was lots of time to rig/change/go to the briefing and try to work out the course... launching is exciting so probably best to get out on the water early. Good luck!

As per Hannahs post, Launching, rigging and changing is all interesting.

The Toppers are the first to leave at 12 Mid Day and then everyone after that.

The launching and recovery occurs at 4 places. If you are sailing a Double hander, best to get to one of these points to the left hand side of the club house. Lasers and some boats launch from the gravel which has no assistance. The QMSC guys launch using winches as it is a 45 degree angle drop into the water then a pontoon for final rigging.

There is only one way up and down, so get everything loaded into the boat when you drop that off, then you have to drive it back down again to park, all well managed.

Catering is good, eat before you go out, there are 3 places to buy food or bring it with you.

The briefing occurs via a video link, so dont worry about not been their on time, it repeats itself. The interesting bit is the starting sequence, worth making a note of your number.

Changing, there were 260 boats last year, so some 400 people changing. Although the changing rooms are large, they fill up easily! So if drysuiting it, change down by the car!

After all, this is a great event, providing you launch early enough you'll be fine.

if the boat is finished being reassembled in time, will be coming to the
bloody mary to test her out, my first time there 2, sailed at QMSC before and
launching when there wasnt 200 and something boats was interesting, this
will be a nightmare i imagine! What timeish do the fast boats launch? (B14
fast 880)...?

The Bloody Mary is a great event but be aware that some  boats will not tend to do well on handicap, so as long as you are happy with this it is a great day out :)

Hoping to break my Bloody Mary duck this year.
Is it worth pre registering as I am not 100% if I can make it yet?
Or is it ok on the day?

I had a look at it this morning, if it stays like that i will go. Any idea what time i need to arrive at queen mary and what time the 200's start??

I would arrange to get there about 9.30-10ish. I know it sounds early but it isn't a small event. By the time you get through the gate, unhitch, dump crew, gear and sails, park car, walk back to boat, rig, change, eat etc it all takes time.

I think the Lasers started at something like 12.30 (or there abouts) so about 12.45 for  the 200s. I am not entirely sure on the timings.

Enjoy it, I would check the QMSC website Friday just to check. The lake at HOAC was frozen over today. The launching at QMSC is tricky, its a 45 degree slope at three winched entrances and one entrance without. So if its wet it will be icy.

Good Luck!!

I will be there in an iso, i went last year and i agree get there early its pretty hectic plus try and get into line to launch early as the queues do sometimes get big.

Definately gunna be there in the new boat, and all i can say is thank god in
one of the last starts! Still got a few bits to do, the racks are stiff, havent
attached the gudgeons yet and havent reassembled the kite halyard takeup.
Will see you all there... look out for the white B with 714 as the sail
number... (there will be 2 idiots looking lost and with their hands stuck well
up the hatches bolting the boat back together...

My boat won't be ready for a while yet.

Call me Mr Negative, but sailing around with 250 other boats in a concrete bathtub with fluky windy which will only be worse with all the boats, terrible launching and next to no room to get changed doesn’t sound like a fun day out to me. But have fun everyone!

Funny if the forecast stays the same I was thinking of giving it a miss.

I quite enjoyed having this weekend off (the water)...

I think im going to have to skip it this year, even though i really enjoyed it last year. The 600 is in many different pieces scattered throughout the house at the moment and with a garage full of windsurfing kit I am struggling to get it dry enough to reassemble it.

600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.

Having looked at the forecast I am going to give it a miss this year... Ironically I am going to go Ice Skating instead!

The last time I did the Bloody Mary - in both senses - in almost another life time ago, conditions were similar.

When we got there with the old GP14 all the sheets were solid and there was ice on the launching ramps. I'm sure I've got some pics somewhere.

We started but packed it in because things were not working on the boat and I was so cold I was in danger of changing sex.

Good luck to all doing it
(N12 weather I feel)

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

QM Webcam currently shows poor visibility, light wind and a Thames Rater being launched. Could be a good bet...

Well as the person that asked the question I feel i should add my comments for what they are worth.

I actually still enjoyed it but then sailing in a Graduate meant that we had pretty clear air for most of the event and sailing a dry boat with freeboard meant that we could keep dry and thus relatively warm!

Definitely an event that people should do but if you chose to give it a miss this year… well that was probably the right decision.

Any way useful thread, or at least it was for me so ill start a new thread now about the battle of the classes race J

Ian
