On Sunday aboard the Queen Galadriel berthed at Maldon, Marconi Sailing Club presented a cheque for £18,469 to Nick Back of the Cirdan Sailing Trust. This being the amount raised during a weekend back in July when the Club hosted the annual East Coast Piers Race. The Race is a 50 mile long distance Race for catamarans starting from Osea Pier turning at Walton Pier before retracing its route back to Marconi SC. All profits from the Race are donated to sailing related charities.

While presenting the cheque, Clive Shenton, Vice President of Marconi SC, reminded all present that the Race has been held for the last 21 years and for the majority of that time the Cirdan Sailing Trust has been the major beneficiary of the money raised. In accepting the cheque Nick Back said that, as in previous years, the money would be used to provide bursaries so that underprivileged adults and young people could have life changing experiences sailing on one of the Trust's boats. Nick also thanked the members of the Race Committee who were present for their tireless work in organising a safe and successful event.

The East Coast Piers Race 2009 will be held on Sunday 28th June.
