Firstly, this post is on behalf of the UK Fireball Association.

There is a plan to make a Fireball (maybe several depending on response) available to a youth team to campaign on the circuit for 2009, including the nationals (Weymouth), and the worlds (La Rochelle).

At the moment we are only in the initial stages of working out all the details and criteria, and are trying to guage response.

Would this be of interest to you? Please reply with any comments.......

Many thanks.

I would be interested but I would have a problem finding a crew/helm, do you want whole teams or individuals?

You mean a bit like the Bullet, it was a baby fireball. Last time I saw one was in the late eighties. I can't seem to find any pictures but it definitely existed http://www.noblemarine.co.uk/boats/dinghy/Bullet/

edited for spelling

I think he means they are gonna give a firball to a youth team to encourage them into the class, like the 14's have done for the last 2 years.

I'd def be up for that, is there an email or something we need to send to confirm.

What is the upper age for a youth?

No i think he means in a similar sense to what the I14 class did earlier this year? Sounds like a good plan. I would be interested but i'm already well into the 600. Hope all goes well.

Sounds great.

Would love to do that, probably the wrong size for it though.

I am 46 but with a mental age of 17 - does that count?  I used to love crewing the fireball!

Id also be up for that depending on what my crew thinks and how it fits around other events. Seems a good idea!

I would be very interested, I am currently at a stage where i guess most
youths find themselves, parent bought the mirror etc, and since moving
onto other things i now only have enough money to buy a non competitive
boat or campaign one i dont have, but not both. Seems a fantastic opportunity to get into a class!

Thanks for all the replys / interest.

There is not upper age limit set yet, we are still trying to decide exactly where to cut it off. What I can tell you though is that the boat(s) will be made available to a youth team to campain on the circuit. There will have to be a certain amount of commitment to go to a percentage of the events during the year. It will be an FRP boat, so will be competetive and support for tuning and technique etc will be there.

The plan is to finalise criteria by late this year, then decide on a crew and announce some time around / just after the Dinghy Show. Keep your eyes on the fireball website for full details.

One thing that has been brought to light here, but we didn't think of is that it seems that there are people interested who haven't got helms or crews. I think it would be a good to maybe look at some "matchmaking" to give everyone a chance.

Please continue with the  feedback.

is there somewhere we can add our names to a list to confirm our interest, or will you be using this forum?

/\ use the PM system and email him your details to be kept on file. Easiest way really.

Matchmaking is doomed I suspect; if the class is going to help out some youths I'd go for a team; pick an established pair. You don't want two people who are trust together falling apart later in the season leaving the donated boat unused ....
