It's a shame one of those mad professor efforts didn't ket to the 50k barrier first ... kite surfers just look so unelegant ...

well now they'll be chasing 60. that will be even more impressive if they crack it. but how long did it take to get from 40 to 50 knots?

so nearly 20 years to gain 10 knots, whats the odds on the year for 60 knots falling anyone?

I think 100kph is the next big number up, so I guess well have to start chasing that now < =text/>

Google will actually convert for you; just type, say, "50 knots in mph" in and it'll tell you that's 57.5mph (rounded by me). 92.6 km/h in case you wondering.

100km/h is 54.0 knots (62.1mph)

1.00 knots = 1.15 mph = 1.85 km/h

0.87 knots = 1.00 mph = 1.61 km/h

0.54 knots = 0.62 mph = 1.00 km/h

conclusion: 50 knots is fast, and 100km/h isnt that much faster.

But each knot is harder than the last...
Interestingly (kind of) is that 100kph, or 62mph, is the accelleration time given for cars on things like Top Gear. How fast would a kite surfer actually reach these speeds? Fast enough to brat an Ariel Atom, or so slow as to be beaten by a VW camper? I really have no clue...

Dunno, but I know I need an Atom in my life, ideally a 500.  Lack of money precludes.......

I'd have to agree with Paul Larsen, there. If I was to reach 50 knots in my Firefly, I'd only think of it as the record if I'd beaten the Kitesurfers...Of course, I'd probebly have been stopped by the police by then for sitting in a boat behind a car on the M4!
