Hi Folks, probably a stupid question but here goes anyway:

What does 'Kiwi Style' relate to in terms of Laser toe-straps..........I'm assuming that the Kiwi's adopted that particular style of hiking ?.........if so, what were the alternatives ? - just wondering,

Nigel

From the Rooster site:

Kiwi Style - using a special material that grips the sailing boot - which helps you to point toe hike and still grip the strap. The strap has been developed with feedback from top international sailors - we have just the right amount of foam to give comfort yet still allow maximum feel.

Basically its the style of hiking where you have straight legs and lock your toes under the toe strap (generally you have the strap tighter) rather than the tradition method of hooking your feet around the strap so it actually lies over your ankles. Kiwi style gives you more leverage and is better for your joints in the long term, but its bloody hard work.

I can definatly believe that, after a windy day on the water my ankles can certianly feel it.

I sort of knew what that style of hiking entailed, I was really just wondering how it got the name, "Kiwi Style" ? .........and has it always been called that ?

The short toestrap style may be better for your knees as it keeps them straighter but it is a very good way to damage your ankles. After all if you were trying to break you angle you would straighten it and load it right at the end. As the leg is straighter you are also more likely to get a build up of "waste products" from hiking. Just look at the windy races at the games, did you see anyone hiking Kiwi style???
