Now http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/?article=143020 - this is funny. ..
"In the Star and Tornado classes, today’s medium-strength breezes proved
incompatible with the USA’s light air equipment selections. In the
Tornado, John Lovell (New Orleans, La.) and Charlie Ogletree (Kemah,
Texas.) have been using their small gennaker designed for very light
winds. In the Star, John Dane III (Gulfport, Miss.) and Austin Sperry
(Gulfport, Miss.) had chosen a hull designed for Qingdao’s predicted
light winds. Dane said, “We used the light air equipment, but we haven’t
sailed in any light air.”
In the stars Race 2 the USA came second.. in 7 knots at the 1st windward mark..in Race 8 they came last in erm 8 knots at the 1st windward mark.
I've heard a few excuses in my time, but "had chosen a hull desgned for predicted light winds" really takes the biscuit...

It is true though... Apparently they went with three boats, and presumably having looked at the first races chose the light wind one...
