We're looking for a family dinghy for lake sailing (and possibly very slow racing in the menagerie!) but that we could take on holiday and try day cruising.  We've seen adverts for a Topper Cruz Classic which might fit the bill but have never seen one at our club and can't find out much about them even on the Topper site (poss discontinued?). 

I saw a couple of negative mentions in other forums but maybe this is a 'horses for courses' thing?  Any experience or comments would be very welcome.

Yes they have been discontinued as Topper are focussing on their plastic boat range….

I’ve never sailed one before, but I enjoyed learning in the Sport 14 which is quite similar I think. From what I can remember it sounds ideal for what you’re after spacious, relatively lightweight (compared to the competition) and practical asymmetric kite.

Don’t take too seriously the negative banter which surrounds the Topper range. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with their boats. They don’t offer the most refined of performance but given your criteria that shouldn’t be an issue.  

Thanks both - very positive after the comments I read on another forum.  It looks to have bags of space and even built in storage (useful for the sandwiches!). Our 3 children (11,8 and 3) would mean 5 in the boat so it needs to this sort of size to cope (or for us to cope!).  Not sure how stable it is though or whether size makes it very heavy to right?.  Anyway we are going to take a look so I'll keep you posted.
