Hello people, amnew to the site so bare with me! I am looking to buy a really fast single handed boat, I weigh about 125kg, or 20st. I play rugby and well body build so am a pretty big guy!! I was lookin at a MX-Ray but cant find one for sale, what other boats is there for a big lad!!

The MX ray wouldn't be a good choice anyway - too small.
The most obvious choices for the more substantial singlehanded sailor are the Phantom and the Finn. Some pretty big guys sail spinnaker equipped International Canoes if you want *really* fast, but I don't know if anyone gets to 125kg... |

I have been told by alot of folk at the club (Royal Findhorn Yacht Club) to go for a phantom, but what about an RS600???? Is a dart not a 2man cat??? |

Al have to look into them, am put of the phantom cause the 2 people that sail them at the club r about 50 and over! My whole family is into the sailin, am just getting into it. The father and the brothers sail the National 18, but they also have a laser and a sport 16. I just fell to big in a laser. And it doesnt go fast enough for me!! |

James,
At 90kg you were not too heavy for the boat. Alex Newton-Southon Dave Geal Anthony York (aka chunky) were all 90kg or over and were always competitive. Macbeth, at 125kg you are however probably too big to be competitive but it depends if you want something to play in or to win in. The only other problem you might find with the RS600 is helming from the wire if you havnt done it before. Given your weight I would go straight for a Finn though. Paul |

So commonly, I believe there's a sepearte SCHRS number for the two configurations. Need a longer tiller for single handing though. |
