Excel Pro is not very spliceable as it has a twisted core, excel racing is what you are after. On the subject has anyone used the FSE Robline stuff? Is it any good?

the maffioli swiftcord stuff now on offer from many chandlers is awesome... far as FSE Robline - do have a short length of their 2.5mm dyneema stuff on my lowers right now, very easy to splice and seems to be weathering well

Feeling sorry for vegans since it became the latest fad to claim you are one

Yea Neil is right you want racing because it splices really well but the ocean pure stuff by robline is good as is the maffoli swiftcord.

why does a twisted core make it harder to splice the rope? only asking because im looking at resplicing my continuous kicker on the 600 as it has worn out a bit and doesnt go through the blocks as well now.

Basically you cant splice the twisted core, and the the core is crap anyway you want some dyneema in there if its for a control line!

when you are splicing make sure the ropes are totally twist free. i forgot to do it and now have a couple of twists in my kicker take up in the rs300. rather annoying but cant be bothered re-doing everything.

If you're thinking long term, it's by far cheaper to buy a few big rolls of the stuff rather than cuts from a chandler.  Ok, it's a big cost straight out, but you're never short on rope ever again, and most chandlers take the piss when it comes to charging by the metre.

Excel racing is the best bet.  We use it on all control lines and it's just nice and easy to use and doesn't wear out too quickly.  It's also, as far as i know, cheaper than the maffioli etc.

Yup - got a 100m reel of 4mm Excel racing for £100, including delivery. Can't argue with £1 a metre...

Now all you need to do to look pro is hang it up in your van for easy access, along with a few other roles... :)
