Not much fun when that happens

My club hosted the RS200 fleet a couple of years ago

We went from a nice 12-15 knots to 30-35 in about 5 minutes.  I was on safety and at one point we had 17 boats over, it was a case of just going round and counting heads

Glad to see the mast head flotation worked. I suppose it did slow down the inversion!!!

We held an Osprey open and the same thing happened, I was on rescue and only had 5 boats to count, trouble was they were sailing away from the club as the helms lost their bearings as to where the club was.

Across the river at another open meeting held by another club, the Kestrel sailors had a bad time (different date) where they had to abandon boats even had the life boat come out it was that bad.

Oh well, have to watch the weather/clouds in the distance and make your own decisions.

Those squalls can be nasty, I was in a regatta at Bridlington one August bank holiday, it started off as a very light breeze and blazing sunshine so we all went out in shorts and BA's, all of a sudden it picked up to 25 knots + and started SNOWING and hailing! Only lasted a few minutes but it was very unpleasant
