Subject: Triathlon Wetsuit?

Hi Guys and Girls,

My mum is looking for a wetsuit that apparently the triathlons wear for swimming, effective even in the Scottish Locks and thin enough material for movement.

Does anyone know what this might be or any websites that might help?

Please and Thank you

Sailor Girl

Lochs, not Locks (unless she's swimming in a canal?). As Adds suggests, try cycle webshops.

I take it not for sailing? They will be freezing for sailing, they are effective in triathalons because you are moving about all the time therefore it doesn't need to be thick! Might be bit cold for sailing.

What did you order? Its probably perfectly adequate! Crazy kids sailing at draycote in breathable short arm wetsuits in january! (Including multiple capsizes!)

If the neoprene has a decent amount of stretch in the material it shouldn't restrict you at all. I've just spashed out on a Gul Flexor, which according to the blurb has 100% elasticity compared to 50-60% on the cheaper suits, and it is so much more supple than anything else I've worn.

A friend of mine recommended a manufacturer that sells directly, and I bought a 5/4mm titanium lined steamer for £77. The qaulity was no where near that of the Gul, there was no neck seal for a start and you could tell it was a cheap suit. It went straight back and I ordered the Gul which is the best suit I've ever had.

The point I'm trying to make is you get what you pay for so if these triathlon suits seem too good a bargain to be true then they probably are

Yeah my steamer doesnt seem to cause too many problems around my arms! I find it worse around the shoulders.

I wear a Zhik Skiffsuit, I find them much more comfortable than any wetsuit I have worn, especially with the spandex under trousers and top.

Speaking of Zhik i've just taken delivery of their Bouyancy aid (PFD) and although I haven't used it on the water it seems excellent, if a little steep in price!

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

Sailors get Sailing kit, and as such, will recommend it.

Triathloners get Triathlonning kit, and as above, will recommend it.

Fancy taking a guess why Sailors are suggesting Sailing wetsuits? Its kinda obvious really ..

Tom are you wearing the superwarm skiff or just the skiff suit?

Just the skiff suit with spandex top and trousers underneath and superwarm top on the top, it's not cold enough for the whole superwarm suit in my opinion.
