Does anyone know what happens to insurance write-off/damaged boats?

Am after an RS boat but dont have the money to buy one yet but might be able to repair one. Do companies sell damaged boats, a bit like a Scrap/Salvage yard for cars?

I'd reckon for a dinghy to be written off the hull would proabably be in two pieces- or more- surely?

what RS are you looking for??

i know there was one 300 which was involved in a car accident on the way to the nationals a couple of years ago. not sure what happened to it, but there are no other 'casulties' in our class.

if your looking for a 600 there are some cheap ones with old sails etc.

i doubt there will be any 500's cheap

200s and 400s, unless they are REALLY bad will always be atleast 2500+

saying that, plas menai is selling a 400 with full suit of sails which were almost new when i used it about 7months ago. the mast has a slight fore/aft bend but is otherwise good. £1850 -no trailer or undercover though. worth a look???

I think RS proberbly don't like people doing major repairs themselves.

Can't remember the number - it was a long time ago (Mounts Bay Nats in? 2001), took an impact from a car on the way down.  Undercover held it all in and the boys from LDC did a brilliant job to cut and shunt the back end back on overnight so the guy could race.

No long term issues with the boat either.  Built to last.
