How worrying is this - very; I'd hope those teaching knew the rules.

What was "mast abeam" and which rule (rules) replaced it?

It was an extremely wooly definition of when a leeward boat had to stop luffing a windward one.

Didn't it involve the phase of the moon?

see i already knew about the mast to beam rule not being true anymore but how do you go about telling someone that on the water. its all well and good protesting but it ruins your race anyway especially as i couldnt get past him with out going under neith him and luffing at the end of the leg? (short legs at our club)

Rich just take my approach shout lots, tell them that their using rules from 20 years ago and then do what you were about to do. We need more protests people may learn the rules then.

Oh I wish you'd take a little more time to use some form of recognised English language before you post, friendly_fire. I might even start understanding what you mean...

(Nothing personal, I'll have a go at others soon: standards are slipping and all that, hehehe...)
