Hi,
Who is off to the boat show this year? and what are you looking for?
Will Y+Y be there?
Do any forum members meet up there or is that a bad idea?

We'll be doing the 'Battle of the Classes' which apparently is going to be a dinghy race on Victoria Dock on the second weekend. Now I've sailed on Victoria Dock, It is very long & thin and surrounded by skyscrapers, so the wind is a tad shifty.
Do come & say hello, we'll be in a blue & red striped boat with a heart on the sail!

Lucy lee, i will look out for you!
Headfry, i think it would be cool, if some forum member were to meet up, i don't know about you guys, but i have an image of what i think people on the forum look like! would be fun to see anyone.....is any one up for that or is it a stupid idea??????

I will be there Saturday 8th,
It would be a nice idea, though the show runs for a week and people have different days that they are able to attend. Be good if the Y+Y stand had a 'forum' visitors book on their stand, at least we could see who has been or see who is around. What about a meeting up time on each day for 'forum'ites' say 11am or 3pm each day at the Y+Y stand, though I guess the guys at YY would be very busy and not want their pitch being used as 'meeting corner' we could wear a pink carnation!!!! though as said, it would be nice to put faces to some crazy names.

Might not be as easy as you think....good handicap on a well sailed Oppy and if they have the breeze to start and it dies later on then it could be close. There's not much space in those docks
|
Posted By: hurricane
Date Posted: 04 Jan 05 at 2:47pm
well knowing the guys sailing the torndo they wont do to badly, but on handicap doesnt the oppy have to start 2 hours and somthing before the tornado as its a persuit race or will they half the times as its a winter race??
imagine the monster windshadows in the dock, i will talk to them and find out if they are going to fly the kite lol wouldnt that be fun!!!!

I think we should demand a Y&Y forum users lounge, like the RYA one.
What should it have in it though? (Apart from Playmobil boats and a bath!!!!)

hahaha!!! hurricane, i'm thinking the oppy is soooooo going win!! actually i just want it to, but your probably right, the tornado will most likely do better.
Headfry, i think that is a good idea 11am and 3pm at y&y stand, we wouldnt have to be right on the stand if they were busy!
Is anyone else going on the 16th?????

Possibly best to have just one time during the day to hang around Y+Y, Don't want to upset the Y+Y guys, and most people will be busy looking at all the goodies on offer, anyway I need lots of time to drool over the 400's
How will we spot a fellow poster?
What are the views of others?

PS
Gael what are your thoughts on this, is it a bad idea form your point of view? I do think we would only appear in ones and twos. It would also be nice for us to meet you guys too.

you could wear a watch on each wrist?- at the risk of looking as crazy as we all are!

Print out your avitar about 1cm - 2cm square. stick it on a piece of card attach to a safety pin with tape and hey-presto you have a lapel badge. Alternatively wear a white carnation
I think, given the number of days London is over and the size of Excel you'd be lucky to bump into many forum members by chance - better to arrange to meet at a specified time in the BAR . I expect to be there late morning on the 12th. Probably more chance of bumping into people at the dinghy show.

Lol! Yessssss i did! they aren't fashionalble anymore, you have to have a sea path-finder watch now! omg, get with the times!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (onyl joking!)
Oh yeh and i do believe dubarry boots are now a fashion statement!

I suggest wearing a Y&Y sticker on your forehead to identify yourselves as forum members! I'll be there until end of Thursday 13th if you want to say hello. Identify me as the person going 'Excellent' most of the time!
|
Posted By: Lucy Lee
Date Posted: 05 Jan 05 at 1:39pm
OK now I'm really scared. I have a nasty vision of avatar-badge and forehead-sticker wearing crazies in Dubarry boot with huge yellow watches on each wrist saying 'excellent' chasing each other round Excel after a long stint at the bar!
Sounds like a fine plan. I'll be the one in a Cherub hoodie, no suprises there then!

Never mind comody and sit-coms, we've got our own soap: picture the scene as Sailor girl and Hurricane finally(?) meet...their eyes lock across a crowded stand, they stumble to each other in thier Dubbarrys, arms weighed down with yellow watches, the perspiration making the stuck-on "Y" on their foreheads wilt. Where will this lead? Watch this channel for another gripping episode!

Great live band on the Sunseeker stand.

You should offer to race it in the battle of the classes, that'll make their PR people really happy!

Guess that was the best thing on the Sunseeker stand then, always wondered as to the point of their stand - now I now - it's a stage!!
sorry, most unlike headfry, but it had to be said!

Was asked by Sunseeker to leave their champagne bar at closing time after a friend and I had a couple of bottles..... We'd just got comfortable as well.
Sunseekers are definitely an "Essex" boat...

Southampton is good fun as you can have a go on some of the boats, ribs etc ( out on the water type of 'go on' )

Trouble is , if he's a teenager, he might spend the whole drive saying "Are we nearly there yet?" Or is that pre teens? Better off going to the Dinghy show, Brian, there aren't many dinghys at Soton, and most of it's outdoors, and this year it rained on me all bleedin' day!

Four teenagers? And you're 6 months younger than me! Still, if any of them are girls you could set them on Brian, keep him in order!
I used to sail a Lark, 2195 it was, back in the 80's. Only did one open, at one of the big reservoirs, in survival conditions; good fun! We finished about mid fleet, but never really worked out how to make it go, so we gave it up. I was thinking about getting one to sail with the girlfriend now they are doing so well.
