Yet again we're after a boat. We're now after a 2 person boat who would be sailed by me and my sister probably on the circuit. I'm 15 and 50kgs and shes 12 and about 40kgs. We sail on a smallish lake. Something that is a good racer but also good for her to get good in. Price - up to £2000.
Thanks in advance.

29er good choice but you wont get a decent one for 2000 infact i think you'd be hard pressed to find one for that price at all and tbh i cant think of anything else sorry just a bad point x

I think you'll be alright in the 3k. The 3000 is the only boat I can think of that would suit you.

Got a 500 but selling it due to lack of use and already got a laser 4.7 which she is a bit light for at the moment. Was looking at the mirror but not sure how the circuit is. Basically we are waiting till we put on weight for the 420. So need to put on 15kgs between us to be close to the weight. Plus symmetric spinny is better as thats whats on the 420.
Thanks again!

Mirror circuit is amazing, it's all zoned so events are usually only an hour or so away. There's loads of coaching as well as opens, have a look at http://www.ukmirrorsailing.com - www.ukmirrorsailing.com or pm me for details - I may be more than a little biased but they are great boats.

I think a cadet may be good as its the only junior 2 person class at my club but the only problem is I'm not sure on which construction type would be better, wood or fiberglass. Any suggestions?

The Mirror is a great feeder class for the 420, with most of the juniors who started in Mirrors graduating to 420s when they are big enough. The skills acquired in the Mirror are highly transferable to larger boats.
You are an ideal weight for the Mirror and could easily go up to 115kg without much of drop of in performance, there is a great circuit and plenty of sailors your age. There are also lots of training opportunities, the class has its own Youth Squad aimed at those beyond the RYA Junior Squad Programme but too small for 420s.
If there is a strong Cadet fleet this would be worth exploring, but you may find you are at the upper size with little room for growth, so worth comparing with a Mirror.

how about a 405? you can get a fairly good one for about £1000 and its a good route into asymetrics like 29er etc as you get older. when i crewed a buzz i was about 60kg and found it quite a struggle to keep it down in breeze as its actually more powerful than people give it credit for.
like the mirror, 405's take up to about 115/120 kg. it all depends on what class you want to end up in a few years down the line as to whats best.

sailor 420, just out of interest howmany boats have you been through since you started posting here? all your posts seem to be along the lines of "what boat do i get now?"
good luck in the cadet.

I got 5 boats at the moment, but we've had a cadet, firefly, older 420 and a topper since ive been posting here! And we have a 420 (selling) , Mirror (really old and bad so thats why i didnt use that, and selling), RS 500 (selling), Laser 4.7 and Radial rigs and now a Cadet! But if we can get those 3 sold we'll get something we'll stick with....hopefully!

Haha our club is notorious for us people who have loads of boats, our current highest is 8 or 9 i think. Like 3 420s 2 cadets, RS200, 2 fireflys a mega expensive rib! Plus hes getting a int 2.4! Then we have another with 2 fireflys, GP14, solo, Lark, cadet and a laser! Pfft!

Are you related to Contender443 by any chance? 2 Contenders, 1 RS200 and 3 Toppers... In our small club compound, that lot takes quite a lot of space.

Well i dont think so....yeah we have minimal space in our boat yard as about halfs taken up by those big ol' yachts and the tidal fleet (falcons, hilbres, WK stars) So im not sure the captain will be too happy at the beggining of next season! Only started this season with 1 boat aswel! Yeah but we're selling 3 of them and buying another so we'll have 3 so that should be better
