Not really a question about choosing a boat, more one of choosing a club.  Does anyone know of a decent club down in Plymouth that has an active dinghy fleet and storage facilities?

A friend of mine has just moved down there, bought a Contender and is looking for some decent racing.

Any thoughts would be a great help? I'm struggling as I only sailed yachts down there.

Mayflower is my favorite Plymouth club.

If he has just bought a Contender then best to find a club with other Contenders.

There are some at Porthpen and Starcross I think.

Really?  At MT Batten?

I heard that the facilities were good, but didn't have a club racing fleet?

MT Batten is not a club you just pay to keep your boat there and use the facilities. There not bad but do seem quite expensive, even with the studient discount.

I've been hearing that Plymouth is generally a bit poor for regular club dinghy racing.  Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Mate of mine has just joined Roadford resevoir and is loving it.  Shame you have to drive away from the sea to race on a pond though!

Dinghy racing in Plymouth is pretty not existant, Mayflower SC probably has the best racing out of all the clubs. Mount Batten is just a sailing centre, they do not have any racing, it's a good place to keep your boat if you don't mind the drive around to it. Saltash SC has good racing on Tuesday nights, classes for Laser, Laser 2, Medium H'Cap and Slow H'Cap. Torpoint also has a good bit of racing I think but I'm not sure if the last 2 clubs allow cats. Hope this helps.
