I recall the April trials ended with an understanding that further trials may be needed and a September target was mentioned. Anyone know if the game is on? Exact dates? Location = Weymouth? Cheers

Yes. Sorry for not being clearer. I'm talking about the sequel to the Hyeres trials for the potential women's high performance class. Anyone out there has info to share out of a NDA?

Sorry. Don't think I'm on their invite or call back list. Not sure whether its because I only have one X chromosome or the fact that the nearest I will ever get to the Olympics will be on the spectator stands... I was hoping there would be someone on this board without a gag order. Oh well. Time will tell I guess. Meanwhile for those who might be going or preparing.... Good luck! Who ever gets it, if some one gets it, we will all win!

I don't know why you think ISAF would have a lid on this ... if they are going to do another trial it will no doubt we an open and public invite and the details I am sure will be on the ISAF site ...

If I was a gambling man, which I'm not, I'd wager this means the selection is off since there simply is not enough time to run a selection next year and then have the results ready to be deliberated. I was under the impression that ISAF was planning to have the September trials and then discuss the matter during the 2007 ISAF Annual Conference / Estoril, Portugal 1- 11 November 2007. Maybe I'm wrong.

Anyways, not a critical matter for now. I'm sure in due course we'll all hear more.

I think that what has happened is that they have decided to postpone the trials until they have officially decided which classes of boats they wish to have in the Olympics. Then they will organise a trial next year if it is required.

I think the classes for 2012 will be decided at the Nov meeting ... so if it dosn't happen before then you can kiss goodbye to womens skiffs until 2016

Is it classes or events at November? I believe that they choose the events a year before they choose the classes. If they decide to include "Women's High performance dinghy" or whatever there would then be a year to pick a class. If not then no need for a trial.

I think it's both Jim as they have to give competitors a 4 year cycle ...

Just looked it up. From the ISAF Regulations at http://www.sailing.org/regulations/2007_partIV.pdf

16.1.1 Council shall make the following decisions on Olympic Events and Equipment (classes):

(a) at the November meeting of Council seven years before the Olympic Sailing Competition, decide the Olympic Events and Equipment selection criteria (regulation 16.1.5);

(b) at the November meeting of Council five years before the Olympic Sailing Competition, decide the Events.

(c) at the November meeting of Council four years before the Olympic Sailing Competition, decide the Equipment. Council will decide the list of possible Equipment at the prior mid-year meeting, such Equipment to be selected, except in exceptional circumstances, from Equipment in respect of which the ISAF has
entered into an acceptable form of ISAF Olympic Classes Contract with the relevant Class Association or other appropriate organization at the time of that mid-year
meeting.

So for 2012 I think that "selection criteria" was the year before last (what is that??), choice of events is this year, and choice of class next year, unless I've read it wrong.

Of course they can change the regulations...

So I think there is still chance. If I recall correctly the first trial was to establish the feasibility of the women's high performance event and the outcome was positive. They could not decide on the class but agreed on the feasibility of the event. It makes sense then to delay the second trials and save energy on all parts if the event doesn't get inserted into the games. In other words, November meeting is critical towards establishing which events (if any) are dropped out in order to insert women's high performance. I believe 2 were expected to drop in order to retain total of 10. Fingers crossed.
