King George Sailing Club is having an open day on the 12th of May to encourage new and old sailors to join and realise the potential of having a sailing club on their doorstep.

KGSC is a 180 acre reservoir in North London, the only piece of water within London that fast assymetrics can be effectively sailed on. The racing is superb with races on Thursday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. The assymetric fleet is diverse with Musto Skiffs, B14's, Laser 4000's and 5000's, RS400's 700's and 800's, and ISO's. The symmetrical and traditional fleets are also superb with many Solo's, Contender's, Laser's, the odd RS300 and RS600, and a Blaze.

There is also excellent Windsurfing at the club all year round.

The reservoir itself is raised up 40ft above the local area meaning excellent wind in all directions. The club is also highly secure which is useful considering its inner city location.

Details of the Open Day are on the website -

So if you live in London and travel round the M25 to go plane spotting and swallowing bird remains in the water at Datchet SC or you currently pay huge sums of money to sail at Queen Mary SC then consider King George - if you live anywhere north of the Thames it makes sense.

Hey, do you know if there will be any contender sailors who would let me try their boat?

Its worth coming along and finding out, theres one or two battered ones that might be available but most are Bonezzi wooden boats so they might be a little more protective...

If you speak to Roger White when you are there he will certainly try to sort you out with a ride, as he will want another Contender sailor at the club.

Will you be there on Saturday?

My Scout leader has now decided that he wants to join the club as a group, so we will be brining our laser 3000 up for a spin. But my main aim is to have a go in a contender.

'fraid not buddy I'm going to Whitstable with the B14 for the TT event.  I'll be sailing the weekend after though on something I'm sure.
