Seabadgers mum here again. I found the computer on and logged in. So as you all solved my last problem I thought I'd ask about my latest dilemma:

Do I leave the battens in my Laser sail when I roll it up, or should they be taken out?
I was told (years ago) that you should taken them out to stop the sail stretching in storage, but the bright young things at our club say leave them in to prevent wear on the batten pockets.

Any thoughts?

If you're rolling it, i just leave the battens in, saves a couple of mins setting it up and packing it, then again i was always lazy.

i leave my battens in. i dont think you would stretch the cloth unless you left the sail rolled tightly for a while, my sails always rolled up loosely anyway (because i cant get the battens to lay flat).

another thought on laser battens:

do they have to be the ones from laser or can i just go and talk nicely to my freind at the sailmakers down the road?

as with everything with lasers i thought £17 for 3 battens was a bit steep.

Thanks Guys. I will leave them in.

Just got a new sail and broken out in a hot sweat trying to stick the numbers on. The Number "8" was especailly tricky and won't do much for my airflow in light winds!

Seabadger says I have to set up my own forum account and name (I'm embarassing). But if she will leave the computer unattended........

I didn't think Laser sails rolled properly with the battens in?

Personally, I always took them out and took them home ... Stops other people from stealing yours when they loose their own!!

Yes you do need official battens with the Laser logo on. There illegal otherwise. They were checking the battens when measuring the boats at the 4.7 worlds this year.

Do laser battens still have the annoying habbit of having the ends fall of in the sail? i used to HATE it when that happend.  Still should i expect anything else from the toilet tissue based thing that cost £400

I think you are being a bit unfair.

I can see it now at the next Laser Product Development Meeting.....Lets introduce a Laser Sail impregnated with Aloe Vera Gel for extra comfort. Got to be worth an extra £50 on top. If Andrex can pull it off
