There is an exciting alternative to wet and cold Winter
racing and that is radio controlled Laser racing. We (at the offices of the UK RC Laser Association) recently received this testimonial from our man in Scotland. Quote In Scotland at Rhu Marina we have built up a fleet of praps more than 25 RC Lasers to draw on. We sail throughout the Winter as we all compete in full size sailing in boats which include, dinghies, cats , sportsboats and full on race keelboats. We have enough adrenalin and aggression coursing through our veins during the real thing and look towards our RC Laser racing as a source of enjoyment and a social occasion where we can share our passion for water pursuits. http://www.hammyhamster.com/halfcork.shtml - http://www.hammyhamster.com/halfcork.shtml forget this over priced laser radio controlled stuff and build your own cork boat fleet this winter and race in the bathtub without the drawbacks of fickle wind- use a force 6 hairdryer! NB. Dont hold the hairdryer too close to water I've just tries them- the only way you can get it to go in a staight line downwin is to fit a matchstick bowsprit and huge (in proportion) plastic bag material asymetric, and move keel aft to sort fore and aft trim. If you're wondering why i'm being so sad is cos its this or actually do some coursework!! ------------- |

Harry, this reminds me of my A-level DT project which was an RC model yacht. All carbon hull, foils, rig, film sails. Looked quite cool, problem was at the time I did not know how to make sure it would be balanced, as a result I put the keel too far aft and it would not tack. It was stormingly fast offwind, nearly had it planing once in about F4. I'll try and dig out a picture of it. ------------- FLAT IS FAST! Shifts Happen |

wow kewl phil, um, in cork i saw a RC laser for sale for about 500euro, and i thought, yeah right gimme a break, wat do u want a RC boat for? 500 euro is about half a boat! (the water being too cold is not an excuse!) ------------- |
