Wow, I see Rooster have developed a drinking bottle espacially for dinghy sailing, revolutionary! And there was I thinking that cycle bottles and holders did the job perfectly, how little I know.

Sorry about the sarcasm, I couldn't help it. I think they've missed a trick by not using any carbon fibre in its construction though.

It's not overpriced, compared to cycling bottles...
It definitely has a niche in the market.

why not just get some old coke bottles or something and then put one of the funny lids on them? works fine and costs less than that.

and you can use the same lid on a 2litre bottle if you have a realy long day on the water.

If you have it attached with elastic they can't nick it... Coke bottles not good for getting ice in if so desired.

ice isnt good, it stops the water being absorbed as quickly or something. i dont know how i know this i just heard it from a PE teacher or something. maybe it was on TV.

I can imagine that being true. This may be the reason most people wait for it to melt before ingesting it...

Indeed, the idea is that on a long hot day your drink remains cold for longer...

i meant that cold water cant be absorbed as quickly as normal temp water but i dont know how i know this.

The body has to expend energy in heating both it and you up before it can efficiently process it - which is why eating snow in a survival situation is not a good idea as it will speed you into hypothermia and drain your energy resources.

Thanks to Ray Mears for that one

as a cox for my school rowing club, i have heard my coaches go on for hours and hours about how important being hydrated is. recently, they have even said that in order to be properly hydrated, we should have two water bottles: one big (1-1.5litres) for water and one smaller (500-750ml) for an isotonic drink ie: lucozade sport, or isostar.

isn't that because water is acctually a diuretic (dilutes your blood), you need sodium and sugar and stuff to be able to absorb it into your blood stream efficently

I was told by my doctor a few months ago that i was drinking dangerously high levels of water.....on some days i'd be drinking almost 20 litres of water and i was told i was in serious danger of going into a coma!!  I've not cut down on my binge water driking a bit

I was told to drink more fruit juice a while when I was swimming back because I was dehydrating myself on just water. I suppose its the same sort of idea

How on earth did you manage to drink 20 litres a day?! If you weren't actually drinking you must have bee in the loo...

yeah it's true i was going to the loo a bit more often than usual! But it was quite easy to drink that much in a day.  Just while watching match of the day in the evening i'd just keep on getting more water just for something to do! i'd end up drinking over 10 big cups of water in about 1 hour!
