Afternoon all,

Do any other clubs offer a seperate PY for a Laser II Fun over a Laser II Regatta? The RYA give 1035 for a Laser II but do not differentiate between the Fun and the Regatta.

Cheers,

Paul

The one at our club sailed off an enterprise handicap!

There is not that much difference between the 2 surely....

I thought the Fun was the non-spinnaker/non-trapeze version of the Reggata!

Well this one has got a trapeze kit but the mast is different from the regatta. Has all the kite fittings too but no chute.

I said they would probably have to go off 1035 for now.

I asked the RYA for a figure for the 'Fun' a couple of years ago. They answered that they'd not enough returns to be positive, but suggested 1082.

If the optional spinnaker and trapeze are used, I can see little justification for a very different PY from the Regatta. Sure, the mainsail cut is cheaper, but the mast has spreaders so at least you can get some pre-bend, unlike the Regatta. The bags could even be quicker than the chute in rough conditions with a wet kite in the boat, if the Fireballs are to be believed. I'd try 1040 if I were a club handicapper, but the average Fun owner probably wouldn't be up to it....
