Have just finshed redecking an old n12 and have a reasonably fair deck. Its all been done in epoxie/glass/carbon. Do I need to paint it for any reasons other than looks? The SP bulb suggests that a thin layer of epoxie is totaly water prof. The inside and top sides will be painted as there a real mess but I think that once the boat has been sailed I will want to do a few mods to the deck and cant be assed to remove paint again. I have spoken to two boat builders and have two different answers.

The epoxy will be waterproof but not UV proof. You need to coat it with some uv protection or it will start to degrade after exposure to UV. If you look on this site http://www.oneoceankayaks.com/Epoxtest.htm - http://www.oneoceankayaks.com/Epoxtest.htm this guy has done a comparison test on how the various brands of epoxy react to UV exposure.
