I was reading the post about rinsing sails and it made me remember something I wanted to find out about but forgot about when I thought of it.

I have read news about the house pipe bans in places but where I sail the the reservoir is almost full and last time I was close enough to the overflow to check the water was only about 1 foot from going over it.  I was wondering if in the areas where housepipe bans are in place people had lower water levels than normal.

The river Adur is getting pretty low at the moment, was able to walk in from quite a long way into the river on a tide that apparently wasn't meant to be particularly low.

Ours is nearly empty but that's becaus there's a hole in the dam. I wouldn't mind but this is the second time, in consecutive years that UU have dropped the level mid season to bugger about with a leak which is alledgedly a simple fix.

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer.

now now OT stop baiting the pondies....

On the thread topic. Most water is not provided by resevoir but by groundwater, that is what is getting low hence the hosepipe bans.

The grounwater round here is still higher than it was 2 or 3 years back though.

how do you know how high the ground water is? isnt it all hidden underground?

edit: ive had exactly the same problem OT. its a shame when the rest of the fleet that arent overweight start capsizing at about 4ish. (think our seabreeze is earlier than yours).

rick isnt far from the truth my geography project was based on water and my finding was that it is rumored "water companys are trying to use this as a way to force through water meters"

Weir Wood has 77%, highest for about 20 months, but no doubt Southern Water will let it all out again soon .  They like to keep the Thames Estuary topped up by letting it all out into teh Medway..

The level of our lake is governed by the water table, when ground water levels drop the lake level drops.

I think every house should have a water meter. I think water is one of the resources everyone takes for granted and people need to realise that it is a precious resource. Make people pay for what they use, electricity and gas have been that way for years so why not water?

I found when I was on a meter my water bill dropped hugely and it did make me think twice about how much water was being used.
