Im thinking of buying a yacht to do a bit of sailing, I would like it to be able to cope with the odd trip a cross the channel, I would also like stability and accomodation and speed, takeing into account? I have narrowed it down to four yachts to look at, Can you advise which would be the best suited and which would be up to sailing across the channel and how they sail in heaveir sea's?

Achillies 24
Egythene 24
Westerly Gk24
Hurley 24

Forum Rule Number 1: If you have nothing constructive to say, say nothing at all.

If everyone on the forum who didn't know about yachts decided to post what you did, we would be in chaos. Which leads me onto Forum Rule Number 2:

Think before you post!

I lead by example, surely even you can see that!

And as for doing what I say, probably best you do.

I think i would go for the Westerly. But only having crewed one as a kid
very occasionally and not having sailed the others I'm not sure I'm the
best advisor.

But I thought i should comment just to give you some information and to
stop the children from scraping.

You have probable gone here all ready but this link is to a review page:

I have heard good things about all of the mentioned yachts. i have sailed on a GK24 and it was brillaint. As its built by westerly its built to last so a great choice!

Take a look around, try and get some time on each of them

Try getting sails on boats that are in your price range, and for sale as well .. so you can check thats boats own "individual" quirks before you buy it.

Good luck hunting!

The Hurley will go wherever you want her to go (might not be too comfy though) there has been several Hurley 22 complete circumnavigations!! (Think one was also in the original Ostar (now transat). But for that she is not the fastest boat on the water.

The Achilles is pretty seaworthy too and has either one or 3 keels! There is an owners association on the net and on it there is a report of one guy taking his 24 to the Azores (or canaries I forget exactly but longer that cross channel anyway!)

as for the other 2 they were more aimed at the 1/4ton rating so are considerably faster, arguably more fun but could prove to be more of a handful if you want to go out sailing solo...

there should be plenty of info out there, jus go have a look round some examples an see which ones tick your boxes on sight. (an speaking to owners too would be helpfull)

Good luck in your search!
