Well the laser 4000 although a good boat, you DO need to be a good size and have some muscle to sail one well. Have you thought about the 29er?? Im thinking at your age and probable build then this would be a good choice. Quick, fun, good for lightweights (by lighweights i mean Anything under 70kg) and if you're interested then they have a good international circuit too. Other options (for what im imagining your size to be) im thinking maybe the 420, the new V3000, Rs500. There's loads of choices really, just scroll through the Y&Y classes list and check out whats there. And have you considered sailing catamerans??

)it was a club boat so we were asked to sail it for our team in the nationals.we lost to a private feva them weighing 100kg all up!we beat a 49er on handicapwhen it was blowing 30 knots and 10ft waves(we had to sail off a beach with no breakwater )There is a great picture of us with our spinniker off the pole and the other feva turtled infront of the burj al arab on thay day.

29er looks not to have much buoyancy in the bows .. anyone know how it copes with waves?
bet you get good reliable onshore sea breezes in dubai ... i sailed lasers in jedda on the red sea for 2 yrs ... flat warm sea, big steady breeze, salty so buoyant, no tide ... those were the days

Have you considered the 505, almost skiff performance, can be sailed at varying levels and the bow generally doesn't go down in waves unlike boats like the '9er range. Absolute blast to sail, good racing, can be really technical and very well suited to your wait range. The recent big kites mean that the boat has to be sailed like a skiff downwind utilising apparent wind. The only thing I didn't like about the boat is she is a little slowish upwind but most things feel that way in comparison to skiffs and considering the boat is over 50 years old, it is spot on! Have to add, 150kg is a good weight for a Laser 5000, and the bow on the 5k is fairly bouyant compared to other skiffs.

If you are indeed 150 kg all up then the laser4000 would certainly be a good choice. Is a long lasting boat, Good Circuit, a weight equalisation system that covers a VERY broad weight range and more to the point is fun to sail. Cant go wrong really.

If your both crews and are looking at a skiff it would be good to get some helming experiance on something a little less high performance becuase with the loaction if it all goes wrong your gonna be on the break, water logo island or the plam as soon as you get out the harbour. Also think cost theres only one 4k at the club and it costs a lot to bring in try developing the fleet you have for now and increasing the laser 2 fleet to go out agian. You could try and get the 29er in Abu Dhabi but its been there a while and if its not covered up the carbon mast and pole will be liable to break which could cost a few quid to replace.

There were only 4 boats in the UAE natioanls and the 2 49ers only raced 2 of the 4 rounds so it wasnt hard for you to come second was it.

Isis, did read that you were 18 and obviously finished your a levels are you off to Uni? Which uni are you going to and what do you reckon is a good fleet to get into that has people our age preferably some of the female kind as well (just makes it that bit nicer to look at instead of a bunch wet salty blokes in short wet salty girls in bikinis is far nicer sight) sorry girls

Not finished unfortunately mate, got about a month left...
Looking at either Southampton or Strathclyde for naval architecture/marine engineering hopefully.
Im assuming your talking about which class to get into as a student here?
Cant beat cherubs for the great bunch of people but there is a rather large male bias unfortunately.
The totty quality of any fleet will depend quite a lot on where you are
so if your moving over here and thinking about switching classes id
choose based on boat and cross your fingers on the rest.

Well i also have a month left first exam on the 13th geography then 7 hours of exams on the 16th really cant wait. Should be at Plymouth with Hurricane so trying to persuade him to go from 2 hulls to one small one on a 49er if possible. If you go to Southampton might see you down there some time as i got a good mate down there who sailes 49ers.
